I used to own a Ruger No. 1 in 257 Roberts and never really did much with it, so I sold it. Lately though, I’ve been pining after a classically styled bolt gun in 257 Roberts. It will strictly be a hunting rifle and something to pass on to my kids one day. I want something with wood and blued steel without completely breaking the bank.

Let’s say, $1500ish for the bare rifle as a starting point. I think a Kimber 84M Classic Select Grade is probably my best option in the current market, but they are pricey and hard to find. A Winchester Model 70 Featherweight would also do the trick. I know Ruger made some M77s in 257 Roberts, but I don’t know how bad I want another M77. Who am I leaving out? Anybody got pictures of their 257 Roberts they want to share to give me some ideas and make the bug bite even harder?

Really dig my mexican mauser .257......things not really anything "special" but its really consistent and great hunting combo.....tho i wish it was stainless.

Ill find pictures.....

Id probably build a semi custom on a "medium" action if i were starting from scratch..... figure id end up between 1500-2000 but it would be stainless, have the right length magazine, nice stock, and a fast twist Barrel

Remington used to offer it in the 700.

Bought a used M77 Ultralight in .257 years ago. Killed my first deer with it. Sold it to a friend, regretted it, bought it back. Light, handy, big enough. Always preferred it to a .243.

I have and love exactly what you're looking for, a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .257 Robert's. I have used it for black bear and whitetail. I will go out to my gun safe a little later and get an inspirational picture for you.

It's a real shame none of the "affordable" rifle manufacturers chamber this for the masses these days. You could probably say that about a lot of cartridges. It's sad that if it doesn't say Creedmore, PRC, or is touted as "long range/tactical/precision/sniper/vomit" or the new best thing since sliced bread, it's just some old POS of our parents/grandparents generations.

I don't have a rifle in .257 Roberts, but I do have a 700BDL in 25-06 that has served me well since the early '70s bringing home Deer, Elk, and Antelope with no issues . I do have a good friend working up .257 loads for his rifle. We may have to have a shoot-off!:)

I have a pre 64 Winchester model 70, in 257 Robertds, that belonged to my Grandfather. I also have a Kimber 84M Classic Select, in 257 Roberts. I like the Winchester for what it is, but I love the Kimber. It is a good shooting, very accurate, easy carrying and is just drop dead beautiful. It is perfectly proportioned. It's made no bigger than it has to be. If you can find a Kimber, you would love it. There was one for sale on Gunbroker. I ran across it, doing a search under bolt action rifles and 257 Roberts. I don't remember what it was priced, but it was up there.

Sounds fantastic, hope you find what you are looking for.

I have a hankering for a 250 Savage bolt.
My vision would probably be a Savage Model 10 receiver with a Shilen or Criterion barrel in Blue then mounted into Richards Microfit Walnut stock.

I do have the Savage receiver but it will most likely be barreled in 223 or 6BR Norma as a target rifle.

I’ve got a Ruger No. 1 chambered in 250 Savage. I don’t really need a 257 Bob, but I just kinda want one.

I built that exact rifle, just in .250AI, ill find pictures for both the .257 and .250AI this evening

I'd think for that budget, you could find a great old rifle in a similar cartridge and just have it re-barreled? (Like a Mauser?)

I have my dad's 760 pump in .257, I will always love it, but I have to be careful about what I buy to shoot through it. Most of the ammo I come across on the shelf is +P, which I think is unnecessary, but would be fine in a bolt rifle.

i have a ss syn stocked kimber montana in 257 roberts, and does 2850 fps with a 2x7 compact leupold scope and 115 gr hornady with 44 grs hyb100 that shoots three shot 3/4" groups at 100 yards, and five shots on a quarter at 100 yards. with 47 grs of N-560 it does just about as good. total weight is a tad over six lbs

Hard to beat that.
