Guy's I'm halfway thru my second pkg of the Winchester 209 primers for 777 powder. I'm shooting the power stem breech plug and loose 777 powder. But I don't have 100% reliable ignition. Maybee every 20 shots I'll get a slow fire or bang with no real ignition and I'll have to fire it with another primer.

Any one else had this issue? What 209 primers do you like?

I think the Power stem breech plug is going to require a really strong primer to to get the fire all the way out. What is the hottest 209 primer out there?

There is a big (200 FPS) difference between the power stem and a regular breech plug in my rifle.

I havent tried any of the 777 pellets yet with the standard breech plug all I've shot is the loose powder which I would have thought would ignite easier.

How much powder are you using?

Does the regular breech plug have reliable ignition? Or are both breech plugs having the same issue?

My DISC has been nothing but reliable. I can't say that I've ever had a single, solitary issue with it, ever, so I'm surprised.

Happens on both breech plugs but more often on the power stem. 120-150 grains.

When I first read this, I was thinking it was an issue with your 777. The problem is either with the powder igniting or the primer detonating. When you say 'bang with no real ignition', I read that the primer performed but the powder didn't burn. But when you say 'slow fire', do you mean something like a hang fire; the primer sets off, and there is a notable lag before the powder charge is ignited? That also points me to a problem with the powder though. I can't say that I've had a ton of experience troubleshooting an inline, so I'm just trying to figure this out. Of course, 20 shots could possibly foul up the flash hole to the point that the primer fire isn't getting through to the powder charge. But I assume you're on top of that issue.

Hmmmm. Is this 777 still your first batch/bottle?

I've used a number of primers. I have some Winchester 777 primers that are working fine. I've used some magnum CCI primers and I have some very old primers from the 70's that have been 100%. I forget their brand though; a buddy found them in his dad's or grandad's stuff and traded them to me.

Among the strongest American made 209 primers are #1 Federal 209A and #2 CCI 209M (magnum). The Cheddite 209 follows close behind in 3rd, followed by the Remington Standard 209, Remington STS and Winchester 209A in close order.

I am curious. Why did Knight come out with a .52 cal. ? With the industry trimming back to the .50 cal. ( making it hard to find stuff for what is already out there.) To come out with an odd ball seems risky to me. I have seem absolutely nothing for the .52, where do you get your supplies? Do they have them around where you are at? (I hope so).

The two .52 high pressure sabots are purchased directly from Knight and are made to fit either .458 or .475 bullets.
