The word is that this fall's machine gun shoot at the Knob Creek range will be the last ever.

Not clear if the gun show in the pole barn will continue.

To me, the gun show was the big draw. The firing was an annoyance. You couldn't talk to the dealers at the show while the firing was going on. Too much noise.

Any idea why they are stopping?

I've always wanted to go up there, but never did.

    1. The cost of liability insurance.
    2. The high cost of ammo means that the old timers (who have spots on the firing line) are less willing to waste it.
    3. The owner simply got tired of the hassle.
Well, this October will be your last chance.

I hate to hear it's going away, but I'm not surprised. We used to have a great time at the Knob Creek shoots except for the year the tornadoes hammered the area. Blackest sky I've ever seen.

Me too on both accounts. Harvest time is hard to get away for anything.

Big discussion over at ar15.com. Several contributors have been in direct contact with the owners of Knob Creek.

The gun show in the Pole Barn is the big draw. When you've seen the shooting aspect once, there's no need to see it again.

I hate this because it hides the real problem. The cost of the liability insurance is completely reasonable given how people are about suing others and given how our civil court system encourages the practice.

The real problem is that any time anyone gets hurt, they want someone else to take responsibility. That's what shut down Punkin Chunkin. Some guy out there on a 4 wheeler turned over and hurt himself and rather than accept he was engaged in risky behavior and take responsibility for his action, he sued the landowner. He got his money but he single-handedly insured that landowner would never host the event again. They found another location and a woman standing near one of the machines of destruction was hurt when something went wrong. Again, not an unexpected outcome at an event like that. But she sued anyway even though it was her choice to be there and to stand close to one of the machines in operation.

Between the two of them they put an end to the event that had entertained millions and raised a ton of money for charity. It's still limping along, but finding locations has been very problematic and it's not clear if it will ever really be back.

    Ok, rant over...

As much $ as kenny was turning twice a year for decades, liability insurance was the least of his worries and most of the help are local kcr range members who get free membership for working a few hours stamping hands and collecting money. The pole barn was the only draw for me. Bargains galore back in the early 90's and those maggots paragon too!

They've posted the end of the big shoot on their FB page. Remember, they're basically just a family business.

The only way to know is to call and ask or check their social media. Everything else is speculation or second hand.

On FB they say "No just the regular store and range."

The simplest and most logical answer appears to be the reason.

Kenny says 50 years of effort was enough for him and family.

I sure hope someone or a group takes on the responsibility to keep it going.

So, he got old and it is just too much work instead of all the conspiracy theories.
