krinkov brake on a PSL?

Well I finally found a PSL at a good price and have been enjoying it. I'll try to do a write-up with some pics and groups here soon.

Anyway, I luckily got one that just had a welded muzzle brake. So I zipped it off with a Dremel and just for giggles put a krinkov style brake on there.

I have to say it looks pretty cool.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it with the krink brake yet and I was wondering if anybody here had done the same thing. I'm interested to see what it does for recoil and accuracy. I haven't shot any paper yet to see how well my gun actually groups but I have heard of some people saying that the PSL brakes are horrible for accuracy.

So what do you think? Good? Bad? Good idea? Or am I crazy?
 
If it fit on a 14x1LH threaded barrel, it's not a "krink brake", but a sorry imitation of one.

To use a real krink brake, you'll need a 14x1LH to 24mm adapter.
 
I added one on the 91/30 sniper copy I put together. While not period correct it does look pretty cool on the end of the barrel and while it may just be my imagination I do think it calmed it down a little. I had to turn the barrel down just a little before threadding it. Getting it timed correctly was an effort but it came out very nice. The brake seemed to make no difference in accuracy.

No worries - he was using a Tapco special (it just looks like a Krink brake).
 
Well I put about 60 more rounds through it, recoil was a bit more than the standard brake and accuracy was hit or miss. I was having trouble zeroing my scope so who knows.

I did put the PSL brake on my Draco and it greatly reduces recoil and muzzle jump.

The krink brake looks pretty neat on the PSL but its sure is a pain to clean... I'm still not sure if I'll keep it on there or not.
 
Now I have a PSL, and it's brake held in with a pin. How easy would it be to remove? and what standard brake would fit it? does it have a 14x1 LH threads on it?
 
Is it a roll pin or the detent pin on the front of the front site base?

If its a detent pin then its spring loaded. Just depress it with a punch and un-thread it. Remember, righty-loosy, lefty-tighty.

If its a roll pin then the brake might just be pressed on without any threads at all.

They have standard 14x1 LH threads so any AK brake should fit it.
 
Well, its a roll pin. I wasn't sure if it was spot welded to stop any modifications. How easy would it be to remove the pin and to thread the barrel tip with 14x1 LH Threads?
 
It is my understanding that the krink brakes are more of a booster than a muzzle brake. Its function being to provide extra pressure to the gas port to reliably cycle the rifle of a short barreled ak. Wouldn't this potentially over gas a PSL?

I would like to add that it would look cool though. :)

This is true, for an actual Krink brake.

The OP is using a Tapco "special", which only looks like a Krink brake.
 
Ha! If I had read a little more closely I probably would not have asked in the first place as it seems to have been answered already! Thanks for the correction :)

Well if its stops raining and I get a chance to shoot some in the next few days I will definitely take some pictures.

I think it certainly looks good. As far as functionally goes... that is yet to be determined.
