I like the wood scale on that one. What is the 2nd blade used for? I haven't seen one like it before.

The two blade knife is called a Doctor's Knife. The odd blade is called a spatula blade. Don't ask me what it is used for as I have no clue.

It is for counting pills , I think.

Two nice Case knives in this thread , and great to see their customer service doing so well.

Dale, thank you for that information, I always wondered what that blade was for.

It's for crushing pills. That can be then divided or put into capsules or mixed with a liquid.

Got this one as a gift around 07 or 08 if memory serves. Carried daily, and has skinned more deer, rabbit, and squirrel than I can recall along with all other knife related tasks I can think of. Im squarely in the Case Trapper camp!

Actually, the spatula blade is a holdover
from the days when medicine was in
powder form and was scooped out of
a slim jar or vial and mixed with water
    much like BC Powder.
Pills and capsules are more recent, and
were partly brought about because of
    overdosing and guesstimation by those
dispensing the medication in powder form. At some of the frontier themed museums I've been to, they had old timey doctor's medicine cases with bottles and vials of medicines and a non folding spatula for digging out the powders.

My mom had spatulas like that and while she was no doctor she did make some of the nicest cakes (along with her delicious, secret recipe for icing)!

Threads like this (and others) is why I enjoy THR. So many cool things, and new (to me) knowledge. Like a Dr’s blade for medicine, as an example.

Thanks, OP, for sharing your pic and story and to others that have posted.

    It's black curly maple.

    It's a Doctor's knife.

This is exactly what the spatula blade and the flat bolster are for. I run a lab and sometimes use it to scoop out a small non-hazardous powder sample for visual inspection. Never found use to crush pills.
