I've been looking around various anti-gun sites, and one thing strikes me. Not one of them has anything like a public on-line forum for debate! This fact alone speaks volumes about their mentality and the weakness of their positions.

Even According to the New York Times, we outnumber the antis by a wide margin on the Web. Something about the Internet attracting those with "independent" and "libertarian" streaks and all...

What do they need a public forum for? Sheeple follow, they don't lead. :D

for that matter, when was the last time an anti group held a 'debate'? havent they developed a pattern of popping up momentarily to spout off some 'facts' and 'statistics' and then quickly disappear before they are asked to quantify their statements with evidence?

i like the how the phrase used in MOHAA sounds in german:
Sie sind ein Bündel oder Feiglinge!
actually though, that translates back to english as: "you are a bundle of cowards", so i guess a more grammatically correct sentence would read: "Sie sind feiglinge"; (they are cowards).

I have more posts at mm.com in a month than I ever had on TFL in several or 1911forum. I guess I like playing offense better than defense.

I've been playing around on the Michael moore site for a couple of weeks now. It seems to me that the bulk of the most rabid anti's have fled the Bowling for Columbine part of the site to other parts of the board. we seem to have them out numbered and out gunned:evil: with facts on the BFC forum. Its definately not the free fire zone that it was a couple of weeks ago. I found an interesting site that is what you might call an Anti Michael Moore site. http://www.moorewatch.com/ this one is worth taking a look at.

Why would they want a public forum? They are not interested in the truth, lies and fabrications are bread and butter to them. If they faced the truth it might cause them to think - and thinking ain't one of their strong points. :D

The otherside's preferred method of debate is having a James Carville type spitting out 1000 words a minute loud enough to drown out all other speakers, who them jumps up at the end and claims victory because the otherside just didn't have a beleivable message.

This is why TV/Radio and newsprint are their primary method of communications. They think limiting you to "Letters to the Editor" is enough counter response from the masses. The idea of a two-way communication scares the hell out of them.

They don't want to hear much less be bothered by verifiable facts. Those pesky things to tend to show up on public forums....

Heaven forbid that anyone be permitted to eavesdrop on their disinformation and plotting.

From http://www.millionmommarch.org/bbs/index.asp:

The Million Mom March Message Board is a live forum for the exchange of ideas between MMM chapter members. You must be a validated member to access the bulletin board.

Due to security concerns, there is a three-step signup process:

Fill out and submit the application.
Someone will verify your membership within a chapter.
You will receive an e-mail indicating whether your application was accepted or denied.
The intent of this bulletin board is to be a forum to allow the exchange of ideas. This is a private bulletin board system open only to active chapter members of the Million Mom March. Once your application is received your information will be verified. Please be patient! This process may take up to 72 hours.

Their forum, their rules. That's not anti free speech. It's property rights.

I think it's sad that so few of the antis have bulletin boards. While it is a reflection upon them, I think it is also a reflection on us, on the number of people on the RKBA side of things who, even though the facts are all on our side, still find it necessary or desirable to stoop to personal attacks, threats, and insults.

Yeah, those folks aren't "us." But they represent us, and do it poorly.

And I think everyone, antis and RKBAers alike, suffer for it.

In the vein of "Know your enemy as you know yourself", what if (love those two words) 1800 members of TFL/THR, etc. were to actually join MMM as members and were to infiltrate and control those discussions, tending to agree at first... then discovering the error of their ways?

I know, I know; "What If" Superman was a Nazi? (My standard line to a "What If" question posed to moi).

The late Gunslinger of FFF and TFL fame (may he RIP) did just that with either the Ms. or NOW board (correct me if I'm wrong any FFF'ers). Cracked me up to hear him go on about getting in touch with his "feminine side" LOL.

I'd probably have to assume a nom de plume like "Babette Louise" or some such and see if I CAN get in touch with my feminine side (are you in there honey?)

Hmmm, Babette, mother of two, divorced, age 47 and I absolutely HATE Guns. (Actually, they scare me, the evil things!) What can I do to help your girls out here? You Go Girl! etc, etc, etc.

It's funny to think about for a minute or two anyway. Gunslinger is laughing at me right now from his grave, I'm sure.

Adios

If it takes the To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar route to gain membership in the MMM, I'll let them keep their private forum. :)

pax,

I think the point is its very odd that they would have so many restrictions to post on a board, or not have any real discussion altogether. Why? To keep other idea's out even ones that are delivered in a civil manner. They are trying to push their agenda not do whats good for decent citizens. That speaks volumes.
Who can be surprised though given who we're talking about?

I've been limiting my use of the Moore site since the moderators starting shutting pro-gun thread down. Though some pro-gun types are rude, so are some antis. Can you imagine this site or TFL shutting down a thread because the antis were making too many points?? It's unthinkable. I love arguing with antis.

One interesting thing about the Moore site--most of his fans are Europeans. I'm trying a "soft" approach with them now, but frankly some of the things I've heard from the Germans in particular make me think GW put the WRONG nations on the axis of evil list. North Koreans, crazy as they are, don't want to change my state's gun laws. Neither do the Iranians last time I checked. Europe may be the real enemy of the future.

SIGarmed,

Yeah, I hear what you're saying.

I think, too, that a lot of what drives the anti movement is plain old fear. These are fearful people we're talking about, people who want everything to be under control because they're afraid what will happen if it's not. This is true of the laws they want to pass, and I think in many (not all) cases, it's true in their personal lives as well. It's not so much that they want to run others' lives, but that they are fearful of what would happen if others ran their own lives (an important distinction).

Anyway, if the driving force is fear, of course they are afraid of what would happen if their board were open to the public. They are afraid of being insulted, threatened, and personally attacked. And, quite frankly, I think past history gives them some reason to be fearful -- given that many of them define "attacked" as, "someone didn't affirm what I said and agree with me."

You can't even read the MMM board..much less post.. I've tried some social engineering to get on there (didn't really try much..just took a poke). No luck.

Perhaps I'll ask my wife to try...write an e-mail to the regional coordinator and say "well, i'd join up but I would like to learn more about your position before doing so"..
