Lady finds loaded revolver in yard sale item

Towards the end of the clip (1:56) you can see the "bullets" in the front of the cylinder. They looked a little odd to me, they look red and a bit wide. At 1:12-1:18 you can see the rims though, and they appear to be brass. Can anyone identify the load?

Someone must have donated the case to the sale--someone local.

Now that the event has been on local TV, where's the person who donated the case and is suddenly realizing he's short a revolver?

Doesn't pass the smell test.

There's a Christian Life Center near my house here in Florida where I've volunteered from time to time (any excuse to break out the grill and cook lots of food for folks [at my expense, hot dogs and hamburgers for underprivileged kids]). What typically happens is grandma or grandpa passes on and the kids not wanting to deal with the headaches of sorting it all just go ahead and pack it all up and bring it to the center for folks to take or "buy" from the center.

I one time went along for grins and giggles when one lady came in and asked if she could get help unloading her passed mother's house. The lady was a hoarder and there was lots of useful stuff in the house packed from the floor to the ceiling. I thought it was hilarious as there was no legal release offered or signed, and the volunteers just grabbed from huge piles as directed by the lady. Sure enough jewelry showed up (which I was told went back to the lady). A bunch of underprivileged kids got game puzzles, sweaters, etc.. Garage sale buyers got cheap plate and glass sets, knick knacks and other "As Seen On TV" garbage.

So what could have possibly happened is someone's grandpa or dad passed on. Everyone went through the stuff and they accidentally missed the revolver for one reason or another. To them the labtop case was worthless and mostly empty so no one thought to check all the pockets and the revolver that was probably put in the bag years ago made it to the Christian center where volunteers seeing it was mostly empty didn't bother to check all the pockets.

If anything the fact that the revolver remained in the bag says the staff and volunteers at the center are honest people. My mom worked as an accountant and book keeper for a non-profit that helped people with HIV/AIDS and sometimes the staff would steal the choice items that got donated.

Note to self: always check all the pockets of bags at garage sales to see if they are worth buying.

It looked like a snubbie version of a model 10 smith....for $5 bucks I'll take it off her hands...Try finding a model 10 smith in seemingly good condition for 5 freaking dollars....talk about a steal.

And the woman was crying like that? What has this country become?

Notice how she kept saying something could have happened but was unable to complete her thought, as if the very idiocy of what she was saying was striking her at that moment. When was the last time a child bought a laptop case at a Christian thrift store?

Having said that, I would have been speechless with joy if I had found that.

To conquer a nation one must first win the hearts and minds of the people, and from what i see here it sure aint the High Road thats being taken, such a shame how Gun owners talk about uneducated people.

Totally logical to call the news before the police. The police will only remove the "danger", the news will make you famous!

Why is it everyone sticks a pen in the triggerguard to pick up a gun?

The only danger a loaded gun poses is if you point it at something and pull the trigger. So by all means, put a pen in the trigger guard.

(The gun hangs upside down, barrel pointed up towards heads and pen is in close proximity to the only thing that makes the gun go boom!)

*takes his S&W .38 out of laptop case* Just in case! :)

Kids like computer-related things, even if they can't buy it. They could easily have looked in the bag.

I guess MagnumDweeb nailed it - probably the gun belonged to someone who died, and the case was given to the center without knowing what is in it.

such a shame how Gun owners talk about uneducated people

If you don't know how to properly handle a weapon, you shouldn't touch it, that's just common sense. I don't know how to handle dynamite, so if I see a stick I'm not going to grab it with tongs and call the media.

reversal

she will be crying tears of joy as her phone starts ringing off the hook with cash offers....

My church is gearing up next month for their annual garage sale, and I usually offer to help price things. Like last year a couple of stock sets for a Ruger 10-22 came through priced at a dollar a set--someone said that they thought they were a kids toy. One was a black synthetic factory stock and the other had a collapsible buttstock AR style like. I told them to up the price and a quick Google search justified it. The folks there were happy to get more cash, and they learned something.

Like most have said here--education can make a world of difference--with some folks.

Seriously, I would have told 'em "I'll give you a 50 spot for it" and be on my way. I wish I could find a catch like that at a garage sale :p

she's a liberal because she thinks everyone else is so stupid

Everyone in my house is extremely liberal.

None of said residents are even remotely stupid.

The only thing that even comes close to our extreme love of everything firearms related, is our liberality.

For the bajillionth time, please stop lumping all of us together. We as a group (liberals) at least have the decency to pick your "conservative" nuthouses apart into their actual camps before we destroy them at the polls.

I'd also like to point out that not all liberals are happy with the person sitting at the top, nor all of his views.

In the same breath, I'd also point out that his opponent, despite the facade of the day, is not as pro 2nd A as many seem to think.... Its going to be a hard choice this year- im weighing in my votes in the house and senate this year much more carefully than that of the presidential ballot.

In short, we aren't all the same. When you lump us all together- even the ones on your side- it makes you appear a simpleton. It hurts our cause even more by alienating those on the fence politically " the swing vote " who happen to be very pro 2nd A and all its trappings, but who rightly have OTHER beliefs outside of firearms.

Some of us actually read and write English fluently, and can understand when votes count and where for issues that are important to us. In the great theatrical compromise of political maneuvering, isolating and castigating those with critical votes that would actually be in your favor with tired "they are all the same" rhetoric is perilous to say the least.

Sorry for the derailment, back to the bogus staged news story- or incredibly lucky find by the wrong person.

Some people are beyond hope. People who begin acting hysterical and call the police and the news over finding a gun in yard sale luggage definitely fall into this category. Like I said, if she had an ounce of sense, she'd have unloaded it (seriously-if one didn't know how, one could Google it and have an answer in 30 seconds) and then gone to a local pawn shop or gun store and made a handsome return on her investment.

You will never convert a lunatic like this woman. Best we can hope for is Darwinism doing it's thing.

Where did anyone see me accuse her of being stupid?

"thinks everyone else" is the big tip-off.

Who wants to bet that she files a lawsuit against the church? Why else would there be all this drama and carrying on? My money is on a pending lawsuit.....wait and see. We're going down-hill fast in this country. Ugh!

...as Bill Clinton's former surgen general would say, "...[proper] Gun handling should be taught in our schools...."

What did she expect? Look at the sign on the Christian Life Center door. No where on there is "no firearms" posted. Geez, lady, if the sight of a gun reduces you to a hysterical crybaby, than shop somewhere that prohibits guns!
