Laminate stock refinish on 91/30

I have a mosin 91/30 with a laminate stock that I would like to refinish (dropped and scrapped stock). Does anyone have any experience with this? I will be using amber shellac. My real concern is with the light sanding to smooth out the slight gouges caused by the drop. I don't want to try the steam method due to concerns it may weaken the glue bonding the lamniated wood . Any suggestions/warning ?

Now you're in for it. Actually suggesting touching a milsurp? and a M-N at that!! I can imagine Hoppy & Cosmo coming unglued now...

Yeah, I know. I'm actually not wild about the idea the more I think about it,but it was in VERY nice condition before the fall :banghead:. The blemish really bothers me though. I'm now wondering if I would be able to simply put some of the amber shellac on a rag and try rubbing it into the affected areas. Just not sure how well it will blend in with the original (Russian rebuild) finish. It is one of the lamenated 91/30's from Classic arms. Has anyone ever tried doing a "touch up" with shellac, or know if it will blend in with the old finish? Or will it stand out like a sore thumb?
