lanolin

I started using lanolin as a case lube reloading in the 60s , a thin wipe with fingers did it. I started using is as a bullet casting lube in my old Lyman Lubrisizer and still do. I use it in Black powder shooting now. The jars of Anhydrous Lanolin are a little stiff to smear revolver cylinder faces below 80 degrees out tho. I have recently found patroleum jelly to work good for that. I have a laboratory hot plate that I may start mixing the two for muzzle loading stuff

I use lanolin a whole lot. I use it as a nipple grease and will add it to lube mixes to make it stickier/tackier. It helps keep the lube on the bullet. Theres a lanolin based lube and rust protector called Fluid Film which is black powder compatible. Works great

For a reloading case lube a thin film below neck of case will do.Too much and it will create dents. I use my fingers and set up cases in blocks, my fingers just feel greasy no apparent lanolin visible
Then I use a solvent rag then soap and water and dry my hands before and after reloading. Lanolin works well for low velocity bullet lube, not so great for super bowl sonic unly combined with other things

Like you, I lube with my fingers I have been using the same can of STP for the last 20 years. What about the case mouths I rub my finger across the sharp edge the same with lanolin?

I bought this stuff from Cabela's several years ago. Spray lube for case sizing. It was alcohol and lanolin. I fooled around til I got a good ratio, and have been using it ever since. 8 oz 91% iso alcohol (100% probably even better) 2 tsp liquid lanolin. You can get all this at the drugstore. Shake well, spray the cases (I put 'em in a case tray), wait 5 min and spray again. When you can nolonger smell alcohol, they're ready. If the alcohol hasn't evaporated they'll stick. Should feel slightly greasy. I've done .222, 30-06, 30-30, 8mm, 308, and 416. No problems.

I have a little cap from a medicine that has a line at about 1oz, I mix that with 1 red bottle of Heat, that mix last a while

STP is not that bad to work with I put very little on my fingers. I only lube up to the shoulders and rub across the case mouth. The lanolin I got is like tar I heated before I mixed in my batch of Ed's Red. I was sick for six years I did not I was not able to look at my guns. When I took them out of the safe no rust they were fine. My cast bullet surplus cast bullet rifles I run two wet patches before I leave the range and two dry patches the next time I take them to the range. I was worried, I dry patched them the barrels were perfect.

Lanolin is always great as a rust preventative too. I try to stick with all natural non toxic chemicals to clean my guns due to being a bit careless and always get some on my hands etc when i clean my guns. Sure gloves can be worn...but i mess with my guns a lot and thats a lot of cleaning and exposure to cleaning angents and who here actually goes out of there way to use a mask and gloves to clean their guns? Certainly not me...so i stick with natural stuff.

Sounds about the same. I think Heat is ethanol but shouldn't make any difference.

You want to be sure you use the RED bottle Heat not the yellow bottle Heat because the red bottle is Isopropyl alcohol that is not poisonous, the yellow bottle contains Methyl alcohol that is a poison that can be absorbed through the skin.
