LASD Investigation Leads to the Seizure of 553 Firearms in Unincorporated Los Angeles County Area of Agua Dulce.

I have to wonder how a felon managed to acquire that many firearms, especially in an anti-gun state like California. Most of them appear to be older military surplus rifles, but I see a lot of bolt actions and some shotguns.

It breaks my heart to think of all those guns being destroyed, but it is Los Angeles County, so that’s what I’m sure will happen to them.

Click on the picture and you can enlarge the first one and move around with the arrow keys.

I see a C-96 Broomhandle Mauser, what appears to be a Colt Python, and a Mk 5 Jungle carbine, and..... You're right Twiki357.... A lot of hearts will suffer here, because destruction is almost certainly their fate.

Damn all pig headed politicians that can't see past the end of their noses and have no appreciation of history....

Yep, Springfield's, Garands, Enfield's, Red 9, a Webley Automatic.......

I blame the jerk who had them and should have known better. With all that money, you would think he could have gotten his rights restored......espescially in a soft on crime state like Cali.

I hope they fry him for sentencing so many fine guns to death. :cuss:

And then they let him bond out. Well, we won't see Manuel Fernandez again. But the important part is the destruction of guns and the self-patting of backs.
A story of woe, if there ever was one.

Any bets as who will be the first "News" organization to let us know they can't locate Fernendez?
(The Drive-by Media says, "Who?".)

So, if he was a felon, how did he pass over five hundred background checks?:scrutiny:

My ex-wife was a federal agent. She used to joke that if she wanted she could buy a gun illegally faster than legally. She said all it really took was knowing where to got in a bad neighborhood and having the right amount of cash. The drug dealer, the pimp, the guy who sells stollen appliances and the one who sells illegal guns are very well known.

It seems a bit shocking to those of us who follow the law, but the culture is a bit different in “the hood”. Each of those things may be bad but the worst is the the informant who reports someone. So for this guy to be reported there’s more to the story.

Frankly, I’m glad that they caught this guy. I’m not surprised that he was probably out before the officers were finished writing reports and doing the paperwork. And I agree this story is dead as we’ve discussed in other threads that don’t meet the MSMs agenda. It’s a shame as follow up might help us be able to discuss what laws actually work and which don’t.

I don’t like seeing anything destroyed so I’m not happy that all of these guns will eventually be destroyed. I’d rather see them auctioned and the money go to help a charity. Buy that won’t happen in Ca. Although I’ve seen guns auctioned in some places, I don’t recall where but it was a such as Tennessee and the bidders had to be FFLs.

So all we know is lots of effort was made to remove over 500 guns and ammo from a convicted felon and he’s out on b9nd. Geezzzz

“This case is a testament to the community’s involvement in reducing crime and taking guns out of the hands of criminals,”

We don't know the whole story, but I just don't see a 60 year old man living in an area like that and with such an eclectic collection of mostly wood and blue stuff as being much of a threat. I'm a lot more worried about the thug with just one weapon who means to use it.

he probably did something subtle, like sold a handgun without a background check, or possessed marijuana and was "made example". Then again he may have been smuggling RPG's out of the Philippine Islands and providing them to gangsters. Someone had to take Senator Leeland Yee's job right?

Looking at those guns, it seems to me that they were acquired by break-ins, not purchased. He was probably part of a crime ring and may have sold them on the black market, even overseas.

You should work for CNN or MSNBC!!!!

For all we know the man arrested could have done time for fraud, insider trading or some other white collar crime 40 years ago.. Just because someone is a felon doesn't mean they were out there raping, murdering, etc etc etc.

Looks like a personal collection to me...

Wonder how many of those firearms will end up in the cops personal home collections?
None. The evidence custody chain is a little too hard to crack for that to happen. As for those saying they will be destroyed, that may only be partly true. There are some municipalities in CA that destroy the receiver and sell the rest on GB and such. I've bought 'parts guns' from an armorer for one on GB.

Not likely.

I guess it depends on the state. In Iowa LEO's get first pick. Screenshot-2018-6-19 Some guns used in Iowa crimes sold back to the public The Gazette.png

Probably Departments taking duty-type guns out of the mix; AR's for patrol cars, Glocks or whatever is the issued handgun, maybe an 870 for the Armorer's rack. I doubt it's for personal use.
The local SD where the last shop I worked at was put the evidence guns as trade towards maintenance of the Dept's firearms. I got a couple good deals out of that.

But because he is a felon it DOES mean he is not legally allowed to own firearms! When a felon has his firearms confiscated I won't shed a tear for him.

I agree the variety of weapons does make me think there is a good chance they are all stolen... and probably meant to be sold to other felons. Even if the weapons were not stolen they pretty much had to be acquired illegally due to being owned by a felon. I suppose it is possible that he purchased all of those legally before being convicted of a felony... but that doesn't sound very likely to me.

As a C&R collector myself I see several classic arms that own and would like to own. (I believe the Broom handle with the red 9 is a Bolo) It is a shame to see them destroyed... but I didn't see anything exceedingly rare from what I could make out from the picture.

From what I have heard, it is an unwritten rule that the arresting officer gets first dibs on the weapons seized.
