Dear Friend,

If you are going to get involved in renewing the Assault Weapons Ban ... the time is now. Congress is in session for only 30 more days before the ban expires later this summer. If the ban isn’t renewed, in most states, new assault weapons will be sold at gun shows without even a background check. That means assault weapons could be sold to anyone: criminals, gang members, drug dealers, and terrorists.

Our advertising campaign starts next week and it is crucial that we maintain it throughout the summer. We need your support to renew the ban. We can’t do it alone. CLICK HERE TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION.

Over 75 percent of Americans agree that the Assault Weapons Ban must be renewed. Every police organization in the country, religious groups, educators and scores of other mainstream organizations agree.

In fact, there is only one group in the country in favor of letting the ban end: The National Rifle Association. And so far President Bush is listening to the NRA over every other constituency.

We cannot let this ban expire. Here's what happens if the NRA wins:

1. In most states, eighteen-year-olds will be able to walk into gun stores and buy new American-made AK-47s.

2. In many states, it will be possible to bring concealed TEC-9 assault pistols, loaded with thirty rounds of ammunition, into bars, churches and sports arenas, and even public schools or universities.

3. In many states kids as young as 13 will be able to buy brand new American-made AK-47s at gun shows and through the classifieds.

4. New assault weapons will be advertised over the internet.

5. New rapid-fire ammunition magazines that allow guns to fire up to 100 rounds without reloading will be mass-produced and sold on a cash-and-carry basis to anyone, with no questions or background checks.

Here's how you can help renew the ban:

1. contribute to our campaign

2. sign our petition if you haven't yet

3. forward this mail to everyone you know

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani said in a past presidential race that he would find it hard to back any candidate who favored repealing the federal assault weapons ban. "Someone who now voted to roll back the assault-weapons ban would really be demonstrating that special interest politics mean more to them than life-or-death issues."

More later.

Thank you for your support.

I ain't feeling so good. Dehydration from loss of fluids no doubt.:cuss:

I just realized something... Many people who don't know much about guns may actually think that the magazine has a major effect on what the gun does!!

I mean, why else would they say "rapid fire magazine"? I've got to ask around and see if gun-ignorant people think the magazine makes any difference.

umm, they already are.

i'm 19 and could probably buy one right now without going to a gun store

Concealing a TEC-9 with a 30-round mag? That's gotta be no fun.

I've talked to a number of antis... a lot of them think that guns have gotten MUCH deadlier over the years, so that say, a Glock is far, far more dangerous than a 1911 or a revolver, or that a Springfield '03/.54 muzzleloader is less powerful than an AR-15. I wouldn't be surprised if many thought that magazines made a difference.

Islamic extremists have such a hard time getting AKs in the middle east, we will be the new source for assault weapons for the entire planet.
Every police organization in the country... agree.
BS. Documentable BS.

More documentable BS. Other groups support it's end.

I'm glad to see the antis care about CHL holders having reliable weapons. :neener:

Bull***.
4. New assault weapons will be advertised over the internet.
Who the heck cares? I guess they're hoping they can confuse people into believing folks will be buying guns off of the net.
5. New rapid-fire ammunition magazines...
No such thing. More BS.

Plenty of BS.

"Over 75 percent of Americans agree that the Assault Weapons Ban must be renewed."

That's because the mainstream press is full of the bald-faced lies, distortion and general ignorance displayed in this so-called 'article.'

The mother of the person who wrote this should be ashamed of him/her for cramming so many lies into so few words.

18 year olds must be making more money then I did at that age

Hey -- it's a rare talent. :barf:

So, like ... can one of y'all tell me where I can find some of those "rapid fire magazines" they're talking about? Those sound pretty neat.

Now, the Zen question of the evening is: What is the opposite of a rapid firing magazine?

Many people who don't know much about guns may actually think that the magazine has a major effect on what the gun does!!

That's true- I was having a debate just today with the computer repair guy- I made the argument that the operation of these so-called "assault weapons" was the same as normal, okay guns. He then makes some argument about how "30-bullet clips" just make mass killing machines. Nobody needs to be able to spray all those bullets, automatic "clips" need to be banned.

So, I pull out a magazine from my FN-49. True, it doesn't hold ammo when out of the gun, but hey-it works. I disassemble it, and show him that's all that a magazine(not a evil death horrible killing machine automatic assault clip) is. Just a metal box with a spring. He didn't change his position, but the (evil death horrible killing machine automatic assault clip) was much less "evil" than the media led him to believe.

30 more days? Expires in the summer? Man, those wenches pack a lot of BS into a short sentence without even mentioning guns directly.

Thumper: If you do not count the recesses it is about 30 days. I think we have won this battle. :) :D

Write your reps anyone everyone. The antis are going to try for one last push.

HELP! ! ! HELP ! !!

Write your reps...

and write to the RNC. The last thing they want to hear is that if the AWB gets renewed gun owners will stay home on election day as that will negatively (for them) affect thousands of state and local elections as well as the Presidential race.

The sunset date is 14 weeks from today (98 days). I wish I could get away with being at work for only 30 of the next 98 days... :fire:

I hope no one, regardless of the AWB status come election time, stays home on election day!

It is more important you vote at your city/township, county and State levels than it is that you vote for a presidential candidate.

We hear of people complaining without end about city ordinances, city taxes, etc., but if they are only going to the polls every four years and are not there to vote no on the millage they try to pass at least twice a year, then who's to blame?

I go to the polls each and every time because sometimes there is a proposal (city/county/state) or millage that I was not aware of prior to the election. They try to sneak this stuff in and it works!

Go to the poll each and every time! Absentee if you have to!
