Latest 'leaked' BATFE white paper has some positive suggestions.

I think this may be more of a bureaucratic "tap out" longer in the making than we suspect; the ATF has had court challenges in many of these issues, and while few have seen an honest or informed court take a reasoned approach to a ruling, it is only a matter of time before large parts of their regulatory/enforcement authority begin getting lopped off. Like all gangrene, the longer they stall, the bigger the pieces will be.

<impending legal headlock/executive order noogie>
"Uncle! Uncle! Gosh-darnit-lasflsjfkjdfljsf Uncle!"

From the linked ‘document’:

“Note: The opinions expressed within this white paper are not those of the ATF; they are merely the ideas and opinions of this writer.”

'Merely,' indeed.

Standard disclaimer on those type of things.

However this author does have a bit of clout. Not some paper put together by a bunch of guys on the internet who don't have any pull in decision making.

Also noticed they are working on getting those Korean rifles imported in the paper as well as getting a lot of confusion regarding armor piercing handgun ammunition clarified.

I'm trying not to get too excited, but there are a number of very positive signs:

  • The new president campaigned hard on a pro-2A platform. There is at least the possibility he'll sign it into law if it gets to him.
  • His son, and member of the transition team, met with the CEO of SilencerCo and recorded a firearms-freedom positive video.
  • This leaked white paper seems to indicate the regulatory agency involved, BATFE, is open to reclassification. In all my years, I don't recall anything like that being put out there.
The question is will it get through the Senate and to the Trumpster's desk. Time will tell.

Rather negative sign... :(

This is Mr. Turk, alleged author of the white paper "explaining" to congress why they straight up blew them off when testimony was requested regarding Fast & Furious (they showed up after Chaffetz basically threatened to formally subpoena these officials). Lies, deflection, more lies, more deflection, then halting, partial answers that sound unconvincingly improvised, before feigned outrage at being called out on the deception.

Any judge would find such behavior in contempt of their court, any boss would have fired someone immediately after such an exchange. Good thing for Turk it's just the US Congress...

This is after Turk was was subpoenaed. You should see the March 9 hearing where Chaffetz signed the suboeonas right on the dias!

Illustrating why there’s nothing to get excited about.

Again, the ‘letter’ is one person’s subjective, unofficial pipedream in no way reflecting sanctioned policy.
