I started to disassemble my older unfired Navy Arms cavalry model Le Mat to do some touch up with some BC cold blue, but cannot figure how to remove the take down lever. I have seen posts where this lever becomes released on its own under recoil or even from bouncing around in a holster. Mine appears to be pretty well secured to the frame and resists my efforts to remove it. I don't want to put any major muscle to the lever for fear of damaging the take down lever, its spring, its pin, or the frame. Any suggestions?

Doesn't it just pull out from the frame? There were two kinds IIRC a screw type (which I don't have) and a lever which I have.
You simply pull the lever down and back. Then the barrel assembly unscrews.
The lever might be tight .... use of a tool migh help to gain leverage and not mangle fingers.
