Shooting both plated and cast lead. I'm working up a load for plated to replace the cast.

Weak poll.

I cast my own, shoot cast, plated, and jacketed, in rifle and pistol. Part of my garage is anchored down with several hundred pounds of free wheelweights, so I'm actually casting more. For rifle and pistol rounds above 1000fps, I'm using gas checks, too.

Lead. More lead. Then when I am done, I shoot more lead. Jacketed bullets are for people with more money than time, IMO. Someone told me that I was wrong about that before, but if you think about this way, it makes sense:

If you only shoot jacketed bullets and then you run out of money to buy them, would you shoot lead then? If so, then you have more money than time to shoot and clean guns. If I could only shoot jacketed I could only shoot about 1/10 of what I do.

Sorry for the lousy question, but it appears we are getting an answer. Of course, I don't know what percentage of THR users even look at the reloading forum, so I will try and craft a better question and put it on the general board.

From here, it looks like about 66% or so of the reloading crowd shoot lead, either their own or someone else's. Which does make sense considering the expense. I think that anyone unwilling to learn how to get the lead out and clean a little more vigorously is likely a casual shooter who wouldn't be reloading anyway.

I might save it as a hobby for later, but casting sounds interesting. Certainly quasi free bullets if you can scrounge the lead sounds like fun!
