I have a lee challenger single stage that i've been very happy with. I'm going to get the lee pro 1000, but i keep seeing things that make me unsure as to what else i need to buy along with the kit. I'm buying the kit for .45, which comes with the powder dispense and shell holders and whatnot. I'm ordering the double measure disks to allow for rifle loading, and also getting the shell plates 19, 1, and 4 to allow for .223, 9mm, and 357. I'm getting the small primer feeder as well. But for 9mm shell plate, i saw one that came with a shell plate carrier. What is that? do i need different ones of those for different calibers as well? What else do i need to order? I load .357, 9mm, .45, and .223. The larger rifle calibers i will continue to do on my single stage. thanks.

The carrier is the entire assembly that goes up and down. Getting the entire carrier makes it easier to switch between calibers because you just swap that assembly instead of having to take the shell plate off of it and swapping that. It's up to you. Personally, I just swap plates, I don't find it that difficult.
The only other thing that immediately comes to mind would be a case feeder for the rifle cases. Not required as you could feed the cases by hand, but helpful.
I would also suggest the case collator. Best $10 you can spend for this thing.
Edit, forgot you'll also need a small primer ramp and seater pin. If you get the carrier assembly, it'll come with those

I have two Lee Pro 1000 presses and load 3 different calibers at this time. 9mm, 45 acp and 45 colt. Now I have 3 turrets all set with the dies and powder feeders, as well as the complete shell plate carrier including shell plates and primer setups. I also have it for 38/357 however don't load those at this time. It really depends on how fast you want to change from on caliber to the other. Now you will still have to do at least a quick cleaning of the carrier every so many round, for me about every 250 to 350. That takes a bit more time and at that time one could also simply change the shell plate and right primer pin with primer feed tube. I have the complete because I bought used and it all came together. The presses work good for me also by the way. I still want a Lee Classic Turret though as that works better for some jobs.

If you get the small primer kit you will get everything you need to switch it over plus another primer tray. I wouldn't buy a second Carrier. I'd buy a second press first. Get enough turrets for you other dies. You need the correct case feeder & I'd suggest trying the bullet feeder.

Buy the Pro-1000 press setup for 38 Special/357 Magnum already (90636).
Buy a 3-die carbide set for the 9mm (90509), the 45 acp (90513), and buy a Lee RGB die set for the .223 (90871) and a Rifle Charging die (90194).
Buy three extra 3-hole turrets (90497).
Buy the Lee primer parts kit which includes small and large primer slides, punches, and springs and a spare primer flip tray (90660). You'll have all the small primer parts with the press already, so the extra small primer parts in the kit are great to have for spares, and the kit costs as much as just buying the large primer parts separately.
Then buy the #19 shell plate (9mm & 40 S&W) (90669), the #2 shell plate (45 auto) (90652) and the #4 shell plate (223, 380, 32) (90653).
Alternatively, you could skip buying the #2 shellplate (90652) and the primer parts kit (90660) and instead get a #2 Shellplate Carrier Assembly (90645) which will get you the #2 shellplate and the large primer parts and all the shellplate carrier parts. This really speeds up caliber conversion.
Buy the shell collator funnel (90667)- it is worth the money by far.
Buy the Large Case Feeder complete kit (90658) which includes the correct "Z"-bar for the 45 and an extra set of tubes for spares. The 223 will work with the 38/357 case feed parts well enough to not need to buy it.
