You didn't mention what style of gun you want.
If you are looking for a plains rifle the Lyman Great Plains is the most authentic factory made replica of a half stock Hawken. They make left and right hand in percussion and flint in .50 and .54 caliber. My favorite caliber is .54.
These are not the typically undersized Italian rifles.
Surf the Net to find the best price or look at some black powder or early history group classifieds, like historic trekking.com. Google up the name and get lucky. I bought a slightly used one a while back for $295 including shipping.

I would just look around. I bought a Jackie Brown .45 left handed flinter off one of the auction sites a couple of years ago for 300 bucks. Not bad for a 800 to 1000 dollar gun. It is a great shooting gun, just a pain to clean. Thats why I don't shoot it. I shoot my Cabelas Hawken more. It is a lot easier to clean.

scottw I have shot a few fint locks right and left handed, had one for my (Dixie DGW) Tennessee Mountaint Rifle. It's convertable Cap or Flint, made by Miroku, Japan. A damn nice Rifle have had it for 20 some years, shot metalic silhoutte got a couple trophies on the wall. Thi s catolog is 2005 @ $595 for L/H Flint p/n FF1120 go to DiXie
Never mind Dixie on this one they don't have it anymore...too bad you'd a liked it. I'll post a couple pics a mine in percusion...I don't like flinch lock at all, left or right shootin left...not a natural act. Photobucket&TinyPic are down at the time, will edit and post pics later.
I guess I'd go Lyman Great Plains or T/C for less $...otherwise Pedersoli.

I'm also left handed and own both right and left hand flintlock rifles.
I find I shoot the right handed rifles more than the left. I'm not sure why.

twenty five years now and not one problem. I have had fragments from the percussion rifles hit me in the face, but only once or twice. Keep your eye on gunbroker as I have found several nice guns over the years there at reasonable prices. Good luck in your search.

I would check gun shows or Lyman dealers or traders. I just picked up a left hand Lyman for $200. It was priced at 300 but it sat for 6 months and I made an offer. I have beeped with right hand rifles for 50 years and am finally getting to real left handed stuff. For a flintlock I would highly recommend a left handed gun for a left hander.
For me all the gizmos are the aggravating part. Expect to spend at least $100 for necessities. You can make a lot of the stuff. It might help if you joined a club. I had to spend 100 bucks for real Goex black powder. The only place I could find it wanted 15 bucks a pound which isn't too bad but they had a 5 lb limit and shipping was 8 bucks a pound.
Listen to what these people tell you. I have been real lucky in getting mine to go off and shoot well. It shows the potential to be a very accurate rifle.
Be careful, the warnings on the barrels do not tell you that these things may be addictive! I now have a Howdah and am rebuilding a .32 squirrel rifle (the .32's are real accurate and the ballistics look to place between a 22 lr and a 22 mag). I can see me splitting a can of black powder with a friend and hoping we didn't git ripped off.

I am lefty also I have a ky rifle in flint. I shoot it L/handed Man told me if I see the flash I am not focus on my sight I haven't had a problem Shooting it. I have a cap hawkins also But don't enjoy shooting it as much
