Ron, my post was in response to a moral attack on liberals as being pro-criminal and anti-law enforcement. Then when I set the facts straight, you come back with:
All your statement above proves is that it is liberals who are most likely to hold a government job. No big surprise there, liberals suckling at the teat of big government and feeling morally superior about it, no surprise at all.
Get a clue. Most of the people I mentioned: the forensic interviewers, the psychologists, the doctors, the prosecutors, could all make alot more money in the private sector. Most of them turn down offers that include raises of pay of several times their salary.
Experts in these cases recommend a person spend no more than 3 years in this field because of the irreparable pyschological harm it does to you to deal with kids who are sexually tortured. Basically, you end up with secondary post traumatic stress disorder. The problem is there aren't enough qualified people to do the work, and you know that if you leave, the work won't get done.
What ends up happening is that folks do this stuff for 10 years or more before burning out and then they go into private practice. The prosecutors usually go into civil practice, or go into federal prosecution. I turned down a number of civl offers to go federal. As soon as I got here they asked me to go after child predators on the internet (like the stuff you see on Dateline NBC). Which I know you could give a rat's a$$ about based on your last post. But you should realize that most folks doing this kind of work have turned down offers of triple their salary to stay in public service. Its not so they can have an easy life on the public teat, either. I tried 16 murder trials my last year in my former job. How much do you think I would have made doing that for the other side? Do you think the cops (like our moderator Jeff) do this job because they love being on the public teat? I guarantee you he could make a killing as an insurance investigator working for a big company. Instead, he has his calling (at least from what I can glean from his posts here; I've never met him). Maybe you should deal with reality a little more and rhetoric a little less. Do you even know anybody who does this stuff?
