Legal to buy muzzleloader out of state?

I live in MA, but I'm going to Kittery Trading Post tomorrow.

I have my eye on a muzzleloading blackpowder pistol.

Can I legally buy it in Maine and bring it back, showing my MA license?

Don't think it is illegal under Federal law. If I recall muzzle loaders aren't even considered firearms because they do not use a metallic cartridge. MA is a messed up kommunist cesspool and and it could very well be illegal there. Check the state laws.

Black powder revolvers can be ordered via mail in most states, though Cabelas web site says to check local laws for Massachusetts. You should have no problem purchasing the revolver at Kittery Trading Post. You shouldn't need to show your license or any form of identification. But I don't know how Massachusetts law treats bringing the revolver back into the state.

It appears to me from reading GOAL's page on black powder guns in Massachusetts, that black powder revolvers do not require a Massachusetts Firearms Owners ID, but if I were you, I'd call them or your local police chief to be sure.

Edited to add: the revolver doesn't require a FOID, but to buy powder and caps you need it.

What Bill says is right. Massachusetts may have been the "birthplace" of the American Revolution, but I hear tell they put a trigger lock on Captain Parker's musket. Heck, they could have removed the mainspring to disable it (and I could light it with a cigarette though).

Regarding Federal laws, that has been discussed in the Black Powder forum (check for a thread on sawed off BP shotguns) and you can buy it from Kittery over the phone and they'll mail it to you. However, it's state law you have to worry about.

BTW, I bought a rifle-musket from one of our members (Stoney) and he sent it to me here in the land of fruits & honey.

They wouldn't let me buy a muzzleloader pistol KIT. Not even a firearm, not even a muzzleloader yet, and they couldn't sell it to me because of "federal law".

When I called them on that and told them what federal laws actually say, they told me it was "state law". Called them on that too.

It boiled down to "store policy".

Online stores are about to get my $300 worth of business though. Too bad for Kittery.

I went to their website and they have a .58 cal. Navy Arms Zouave for $225. 80%. For a shooter & starter gun, that's pretty good. But I'll pass. I don't have room for another long arm.

I had two picked out, actually. A CVA brass framed 1858, and a .50 cal caplock kit.

I had my money out.

I had over $100 worth of addition products, including wood stain, roundball, caps, a complete care kit, and more.

And I walked out. I won't be buying anything there again, save for beef jerkey.

I WILL however go there and handle products, get questions answered, etc. I just won't buy things there.
