Leitz Binoculars??

Anyone have any information on Leitz binoculars? Are they part of Leica?
I have come across a pair of Leitz Trinovids 10x40 and I am at a loss as to what they are. They quality doesnt seem all that spectacular, but then again I dont have anything really great to hold them up to.
Any ideas?

Leitz precedes Leica and no binoculars or other optical gear is marketed under the Leitz name anymore. But Leitz items are top drawer when you can find them all the same.
