I found a lightly used one for 1300. Its a 5" BBL. Is that a good price? It looks like a nice pistol. I kind of want it but lately I seem to be doing gun stuff only in my mind. My dealer is always going on about Les Baers. He and his wife have a few but that is their preference. I looked up the retail and the difference is significant. However I notice the folk that are asking 16+ are nor getting takers. Seems like folk are selling custom guns all of a sudden. And this is not now an "Obama Fear" market. What do you all think?

used gun market is pretty tough right now... I see many guns sitting around for months that normally wouldn't last 24hrs. In addition, once you start getting to certain levels you really start limiting your audience that has the cash on hand.
1300 seems to be a good deal depending on model.. The last Baer I sold went for 1500ish (Heavyweight Mono with upgrades). Iffffff memory serves me correctly, but it also had several thousand rounds through the ol girl .

My dealer told me it looked like an older model but would not be able to tell until it arrived. I figure it was the lowest grade custom but it is better than anything I have relative to fit and finish. I have been selling 2 to buy one with the one being an upgrade to what I sold. Pretty much reached the end of my for sale stuff because very few are interested in SxS shotguns. Have taken a real beating on the 3 I sold. Nice hat in your picture. I am Class of '62.

Can you post a pic? If you give me the first two numbers of the serial # I can tell you approximately what year it went through the shop. If the full serial# is stamped on the bottom of the slide, along with a "W" or a "WC" , then I fit the frame to slide and checkered it. If it really IS lightly used, that is a good price, but one can shoot many thousands of rounds out of a quality 1911 and still keep it looking new.

With the slide in battery, press down on the barrel's chamber area as hard as you can. There should be absolutely no movement. There should be no wiggle or play in the slide, either. Hope this helps

91 here.. So I am just a young buck comparatively..:)
Go for the LB and get your feet wet in the custom 1911 world..
I've owed several and own none now.. They are great shooters but I don't care for LB's non standard frames, (wider front strap) That said, every one has been accurate and 100% reliable*..

    *Ive only owned 5" models

That is an early gun, built around 93 or 94. I was just learning to fit frames and slides back then. It should have a Hillsdale, Ill. address. The checkering was done by me, assuming the front strap is checkered, we made some guns back then that were not. I looked at the gun broker website and I couldn't find that inventory number or a used Baer 1911 for your price. I'll look again, I probably missed it.

That gun looks beautiful ! I see no bluing wear. The grip safety looks like a standard 1911A1, I did not fit the slide to frame. My stampings would have been visible in the last pic. I did do the checkering and the flare on the ejection port. I'm guessing some one never shot it very much. I think you're gonna love it.

IMHO, LB is the best Semi Custom made. What I really like is, I have called the factory 8 times, and have talked to Mr. Baer 5 times. He was never in a hurry to get off the phone either. You can't find customer service like that anymore.

It is so neat to converse with someone who actually worked on my pistol. Should have it by Friday. The lady in Alabama who does the consignments is a great dealer.

Thanks for the Kind words. I worked for Les for 21 years, 22 if you count the year He and I worked together at Springfield Armory. From 1991 to 2013. :D It was a satisfying career. My retirement present is above my handle. Sure beats a watch. :D

That is a beautiful piece. my friend gave her husband the Presentation model as a wedding gift. They see Les at the shot show and have shared some of their conversations. I know they sure speak highly of him.

Looks beautiful! Hey, 'tark' knows those guns inside and out. I bough a used Premiere II, and while Les and the other people at the factory were helpful, it was 'tark' who answered all my questions. This was about two years ago - my gun is finally breaking in, and I no longer need a herd of elephants to help rack the slide. Accuracy is everything you've heard. Excellent choice!!!

Oh, and hello 'tark'... Thanks once again for everything you did for me!!!!

Is that a "hard ball" model? I notice the standard hammer spur.

I have owned and shot a lot of limited production 1911 pistols. None is better for the dollar than LB. There is a lot of sex appeal to owning a Wilson or Brown, but I cannot justify the cost of the new ones. The only criticism of my current LB, a Super-Tac is that the finish seems thinner than some other guns. The roll pin that holds the front sight in, is a pain if you want to install new sights without sending the slide back to the factory. My night sights are dark now, but this is not the gun that I plan to carry in the dark where I might need a gun. I have a very well used Gen2 Glock for such purposes.

Sure looks like a HBNM. My serial number is very close to OP's pistol.
