Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special

Does anyone know if Les Baer Custom has dropped the Thunder Ranch Special
from production? It does not appear on their 2011 on-line catalog any where
that I can find. Just wondering if Les got a bit tired of having to pay Clint Smith
[owner/operator of Thunder Ranch] royalties on this product; if there is some
other kind of "riff" between these two~?

99% of the time when a company drops a product from it's line, it's because of low sales figures. I doubt it's anything more complicated than that. Les Baer is in business to make money, and if the TR model was a strong seller, you can bet they would be producing it, royalties or no royalties. I seriously doubt it's because of any "rift" between Les and Clint.

The TRS has been replaced by the UTC.

I'm going to go along with the royalties issue.

The Ultimate Tactical Carry (UTC) is the same pistol as the Thunder Ranch Special (TRS) without the TRS logo work. I believe the big resellers were selling a bunch of them without the TRS logo work, so Baer probably decided to forgo it.

I believe the TRS was a big seller for Baer. I expect the UTC will also be a big seller.

It is my understanding you can still get a TRS but it costs more than the UTG which is the same gun with different roll marks.

The TRS was a huge seller for Baer. I believe they did not want to pay for the thunder ranch lic fee .

Thanks guy's for all the responses, t'was just wondering in my own mind; as Les
Baer's crew still builds the finest 1911's made IMHO~!
