Lets see them bubbas!

I don't know . . . some of these "Bubba" rifles look pretty darned nice to me!

Here's one I just acquired. Mauser bannered receiver from a Nationalist Chinese contract M98, Mark X? 308 barrel, Bold trigger and Hogue pillar-bedded synthetic stock. I didn't realize how hard (or expensive) M98 1-piece scope bases were to find these days! 199-2.jpg

In the spirit of the original intent of the thread I'll offer this 50s vintage Carl Gustav 96 mauser. Most of the work had been done before I acquired the rifle. I just had the barrel changed. Then I installed the cock on opening kit , the trigger, and then slow rust blued the whole thing.

And then in order to honor the thread drift, I'll offer up this 1920s vintage Savage 23b 25-20. It's a fun little snowshoe hare package; but what I really want to do is kill a coyote with it. Someday.

I used existing holes and JB weld to install the scope base. I also installed the sling swivel studs.

I very recently acquired this Swiss straight pull bolt G11 from a co- worker. 7.5x55 Swiss caliber (.308 bore). Serial number dates it to 1916. He had it 25 years and thought it was German and didn’t know what caliber it was, never shot it. He had let it sit in a closet all these years and it got real rusty. I talked him out of it, bought me some ammo and took it to the range and fell in love with it. Then I gave it the attention it so rightfully deserved. I sanded the rust off where ever it was; receiver, rear of the rear sight on the barrel, magazine, ect,...
Then applied cold bluing several times which turned out much better than I had hoped.
Then sanded the stock, just enough to get all the dirt off and smooth it up a bit then put three coats of Tru Oil then 3 coats of clear spray lacquer.
It really was not that difficult at all.

It shoots as good as I can see with its iron sights. 308 performance without the recoil.

Before and after pics. Click on the after pic.

Nothing too wild with rifles. I cut the barrel on this Tikka 308 down to 19". Used a hacksaw then trued it with a square and file. Re-crowned with a cordless drill. Figured if it didn't turn out I could pay a gunsmith cut another 1/2" off. But it shoots great. No different than before.

I did quite a bit of work on this G19. I cut the grip down to take G26 magazines, ground the finger grooves off and stippled the front strap with a soldering iron. It's butt ugly but the most useful handgun I own. I normally carry it with 12 round MagPul G26 mags but I can use any double stack Glock magazine from 10-33 rounds. It's just as easy to conceal as a G26 yet I get a little more sight radius, and it has a rail for a light which is not on the G26.

I'll bet you had to grit your teeth when making that first cut!
