Alright fellas let’s see em! Every so often this thread rolls up so I think it’s about time. Let’s see the most accurate rifle in the arsenal and preferably a picture of the groups the rifle is capable of. Any custom work done or specific loads would probably help all us learn a little something. I’m sure some of you boys have some crazy stuff out there. That group was 8 shots in a row. Mine is as follows;

Specs:
R700 SPS
308
B&C Tactical Vertical Grip w/Aluminum Block
EGW 20 MOA
Burris XTR 30MM
Wo Tac 4X14x50

Custom:
Receiver face trued
Receiver threads trued
Lugs lapped
Match chamber cut
Front portion of the receiver/recoil lug bedded
Trigger job/new spring

Load Specs:
Winchester Brass
CCI BR-2 LR Primer
IMR 4895---43.8gr
Sierra Matchking 168gr
COL---2.81

I don't have any photos of groups, because I typically forget the camera (better than forgetting ammo ;)), and most often shoot at steel (it lasts longer than paper :p), but below is a photo of my LRPR. It is a Desert Tactical Arms SRS chambered for .300WM.

IMG_4516.jpg

It comes standard with a Krieger CM heavy profile (proprietary) fluted barrel, it was topped with a PRH 5-25x56mm optic sitting in DTA one-pc. rings with a 40MOA taper, and is sitting on a GG&G HD bipod. No modifications have been made to this rifle (and I rather doubt that I will). I am currently shooting 190gr. SMKs, 208gr. A-Maxs, and 240gr. SMKs seated just inside the rifling and have been able to achieve 0.5MOA groups from a cold bore when I do my job. Needless to say I like it a lot. :D

I don't bring camera to the range either, but I can scan them when I bring them home, the Icon and Remington is posted on this forum just have to find where and when and I had to many of my scotch ;-)

Steel plate the one I hanged on 300 yards is nothing but pasta strainer, by the way i drop it when I shot chain off...

Maverick - that is one sweet setup. I just read a really good review of that rifle and I was hoping I could at least get to hold one sometime soon (it's a little out of my price range to own). Best of luck with it!

Thank you for the kind words, scottishclaymore. I had to save up a while and sell a couple other guns to fund it, but it was well worth it IMO.

:)

excellent thread topic

i just so happened to take a few pics today. only a three shot group. my favorite part about the groups like this is that they are done with $15 prvi partizan from a bipod cold bore. my reloading equipment is in the mail, can't wait to see what she can really do!

here are the details on the rifle, but it's essentially a stock 700p with the trigger down to 3lbs.

i'll play. Here is mine! It's a Weatherby Vanguard chambered in .243 Win. I added the Richards Microfit stock and did all of the work myself. It is pillar bedded and glass bedded as well. It shoots pretty darn straight!

The yellow target is three shots and the black target is 5 shots. Both are at 100 Yds.

Mikey!

How about a rimfire:
Savage Mark II BTV with a Bushnell sharpshooter 3-9x32. The trigger's been lightened, that's it.

Five shot group at 100 yards using Wolf Match ammo.

Here's one close to a half inch without the flyer:

Both groups were shot during my first attempt at 100 yards. Shot from a bench using front and rear bags.

Maverick and dubb,

Nasty rifles! Those both are something special. Can't wait til I can dumb a large sum into something crazy. I'm thinking like Surgeon/Mcmill/Krieg/S&B or something along those lines. Who knows though, I will have to wait until that time comes.

Mav, I heard the owner of PR has past away and you can no longer get those scopes. Is that true? Old news?

Still waiting for Don, Zak, 1858, and a couple others to show off their beast!

I haven't heard anything to support that, but I haven't been looking either. If that is the case, it is a horrible circumstance, PR makes one outstanding rifle scope, and while not the least costly, there are scores of others that perform less satisfactorily (at least IME) at greater expense.

:)

details are in this other thread i just posted http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=532478
but here's a pic

maverick, nice rifle! but 40 moa base?? wth? it's not like premier (nice scope btw) have a shortage of travel

walkalong, love the stock on your benchrest gun. that's a hart? btw, is that an SBR? :neener:

nice shooting, halfded

doubleA, your rifle like to party?

Nice taliv! How do you like that A-5? I really like that stock, but no personal experience.

Priceless!

I notice Desert Tactical utilizes these quite often with rifles chambered in 338lap. They actually have a video of the reenactment of the newest sniper confirmed kill at 2700yds. They use Mavs exact rifle setup, but with S&B glass.

I've looked and I haven't found anything. This smith just mentioned something to me about it and it supprised me because I though I would have heard something about it by now.

well, i only have 1 match's worth of experience with this one myself so far, but i really like the extra sling holes on the right side, and the general fit and quality and weight. the camo job looks like 2nd graders with finger paint. i think it's worthless, but it was "in stock" so i took it. and the 2 thumbscrews that hold the cheekpiece in place kept coming loose in the match causing it to wiggle around on me. i also need to take some of the spacers out of the butt. once i get used to it, i think i'll like it a lot.

Wouldn't want to limit myself (though I am most assuredly the limiting factor of that particular rig :uhoh:) to only a mere 20-30MOA. :p

I did a bit of research on Premier Reticles, and it seems that when the original owner passed Leupold discontinued using their service for magnification and reticle upgrades, in turn the new owner and son of the original one, decided to produce his own complete optic. This is the one I have, in fact I have one of the first (no. 257). Leupold really screwed up when they decided to run the bus over PR, but in return we are now able to purchase an optic of superb quality that is nearly 100% made in the USA (the optical engineers that helped with the design were imported...they came from S&B; the glass probably came with them, but I don't know for certain).

:)

Exactly what this smith said. He used to send them for reticle upgrades. I guess there started being a little battle when things didn't go so smooth. If the reticle had issues they were then Leupolds responsibility and Leupold didn't like that.
