Don't repeat lies over 'gun show loophole'

In response to the Jan. 9 page 2A article ("Rep. takes aim at gun-show hole"), I must point out that the article states, referring to U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy: "This time, she and others want to close the so-called 'gun show loophole' that allows some dealers to sell firearms without background checks."

This is a blatant lie, commonly repeated by liberal Democrats and media outlets.

Federal law is the same everywhere, whether at a gun store, a kitchen table, or a gun show. Exactly the same requirements apply, and there is no allowance for "some dealers" to sell firearms under any sort of relaxed rules.

Your paper should stop repeating these lies.

Too bad it's kinda too late to do anything else as a follow up, but it's still good info...

thanks!

so, it's a good reply. The only thing I would have added was to distinguish between a "dealer" and "some guy who is selling his personal collection".

True. I think that part needs to be more clearly distinguished.

And, I just noticed this part in the above-quoted letter:

2A article ("Rep. takes aim at gun-show hole"),

Isn't the "gun-show hole" normally called the barrel? :D

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy is one of the people I enjoy most. She is so earnest, so serious, and so dumb that she's almost fun.

Because she doesn't grasp what she's talking about, she makes things up as she goes along, so she invariably trips over her tongue. And when she's caught at it she gets the cutest blank expression.

What Rep. McCarthy can't get straight in this situation is that she seems to think that anyone who sells something is a "dealer," so anyone who sells something without some kind of license is an "unlicensed dealer."

It might be amusing to see if she and/or her late husband ever sold a house. If so, they would have been "unlicensed sellers of real estate." If they ever sold a car they would have been "unlicensed automobile dealers." Or if she ever sold Girl Scout cookies she would have been an "unlicensed food dealer." All that according to her own view of the world. You get the idea.

The only people dumber than Rep. Carolyn McCarthy are the people who vote for her. A visit to that neighborhood might be like watching the Three Stooges or a bunch of Slinkies flip flopping around. They elect an absolutely unqualified representative who has only one issue, hasn't been effective at it, and can't even get it right. Hilarious.

Thanks. I'm an "unlicensed purveyor of amusement" about Rep. Carolyn McCarthy. She tickles my sense of humor more than anyone else in government. I don't know anyone creative enough to have invented her. She's a fine example of Boobus Americanus, no doubt a splendid representative of her constituents. I sometimes wonder if her voters bump into each other a lot on the streets.

The only people dumber than Rep. Carolyn McCarthy are the people who vote for her.

A close second is the People in her district who are to lazy to get off the couch and go vote. They get the kind of leadership they deserve, but it hurts the rest of the country.

Every time I think of Carolyn McCarthy, the deranged, murdering idiot who put her into office comes to mind. Colin Ferguson was the Long Island Railroad shooter who killed McCarthy's husband.

For those of you not familiar with Ms. McCarthy, she was widowed by a rascist gunman, Colin Ferguson, a black criminal who boarded a NYC commuter train with his 9 mm semi and shot and killed numerous white passengers, including Congresswoman McCarthy's husband. Ferguson also shot and wounded her son, among many others. Her response was to enter politics and she was elected almost entirely on a sympathy and anti-gun vote. It seems not to have occurred to her or her supporters that Ferguson was obviously not stopped by the already extreme anti gun laws of New York, and that had NY allowed honest citizens to carry a weapon, the shooting rampage might have been avoided or at least limited, and her own husband might be alive today. I have tried numerous times to communicate with her office, never receving a single response. Her hatred (fear) of guns is so great that facts and logic clearly do not interfere with her emotional zealotry in her anti-gun tirades. Her mental illness is clear, but what always continues to amaze me is the idiocy of her constituents. I have several relatives who live in her district and they are all life-long Democrats who do not think one iota about who they vote for, and who essentially support the same ridiculous gun control fantasy that Ms. McCarthy promulgates.

She is dumb. The best thing I ever saw on TV, in the way of a gun debate, was when Tucker Carlson took her apart for not knowing what a "barrel shroud" was, when her AWB called for their ban.

Why is it that gun laws are written by people who know the least about guns?

"Why is it that gun laws are written by people who know the least about guns?"

They aren't. You are assuming McCarthy wrote this law. That is very unlikely. I bet she has never even read it. She probably got in from an anti organization and had her staff introduce it as legislation. Some of the antis do know enough about guns to write some troublesome legislation.
