My sons are going to need scopes for their hunting rifles pretty soon and I'm looking for opinions on these two scopes. I have not yet decided on magnification, but most likely 4.5-14x40 for the Leupold and 4.5-14x44 for the Zeiss.

Zeiss has some specifications for exit pupil (9.7-3.1) and twilight factor (12.7-24.8) but Leupold has no such information.

Thoughts and opinions?

I am not sure many are going to know the answer to that and you may have to call Leupold directly or someplace like SWFA. That is a tough choice because the new VX-3 line has been upgraded quite nicely. I think the Conquest is still the better scope but the VX-3 is not that far behind. I believe the Leupold is cheaper and if that is the case I would probably go with the Leupold or whichever you can get for less $$.

The new VX-3 line that just came out are great scopes and probably just about equal the Conquest glass maybe not quite though. I believe Leupold has better turrets than the Conquests but the Conquest may be cheaper not sure though I know the Zeiss have shot up in price with the falling dollar and I have not priced the VX-3's.

Do not hesitate to look at the Sightron SIII's they are great scopes and a far better value than the Leupolds with even better CS. Also the Bushnell 4200 and 6500s are great as are the Nikon Monarchs.

Fella's;

Indeed! Do beware of the old Zeiss Leupold trick.
