Lighter-barreled 6” 357?

For me the Security 6 balances just right.
I've probably shot it more in a year than it was shot in the previous 36.
Tell us about preferred bullets and loads you are using in your Security Six, and accuracy you are getting. I might get one, and would be interested mostly in loads using lead bullets 150-160 grains, at about 1200 fps, preferably without gas check. I recently purchased 8 cavity mold for this bullet:

Thanks

I just looked at those 6” S&W 28 on GB. They’re all as-is and weren’t shot to confirm they’re right.

Can’t return guns. How can I bid with confidence with those terms?

The only lead I shoot regularly out of my 357's are GT's 145 grn SWCHP and their Thomson HP's.
6.5 grns of Universal gives me around 1150fps.
Good defensive load.

Otherwise it's mostly plated 158grn Xtreme for plinking, (also 6.5grn Universal). 158/180 grn XTP's for hunting, loaded hot with VV N110.

I would join the S&W forum and let your wishes be known.

I got acquainted with a collector at a local gunshow. Most of my S&Ws have been purchased from him.

You can bid with confidence because they are S&W Model 28s. Of course they are “as-is”, the Model 28 is a discontinued model. As a bidder you need to educate yourself in what the model should look like, condition, and originality.

nofendertom knew what to look for in a Model 28 and questioned the front sight.

Is this an easy education? Not really, there are some books (The Standard Catalog of Smith &Wesson being a very good one), but it is mostly street learning. Will you get stung bidding on line? Hell, I got burned buying in person, I saw what I wanted, not what was being sold.

The advice to frequent collector sights is good. I belong to one where we discussed, in length, the varying screw threads of one particular model.

My 6" Model 28 is in the fourth post, just sayin.

There are sellers on GB who sell a lot of stuff and they're not trying to burn anyone. Their good reputations are an important part of their business. That's how I've bought a lot of my handguns. I've been disappointed a couple of times, but the vast majority have been fine.

If you want a good shooter and don't have a lot of cash, look for handguns with worn finish and incorrect grips. That's how I get handguns I could never afford new or in excellent condition. They shoot just fine.

Find a 686 or 586 and grind off the lug. I did it a while back and foolishly sold it.
