While window shopping on Novak's web site, I ran across something I've never seen before. He has some custom "Lightwight" Hi Powers, with aluminum frames:

What? What kind of frames are these? These aren't FN/Browning frames, are they?

Does anyone know any info or history on them? This is not a current production item, is it?

Thanks.

A few aluminum-framed FN HPs (Belgian police surplus) were imported about a year back. Looks like we now know where some of them went.

Seems I remember some concerns about the durability/longevity of the aluminium frames. Can't seem to remember exactly where I read about it (maybe the old FN Hi-Power forum, before it got corrupted).

Would be great for concealed carry! Just make sure they are reliable (how dumb of me, all HPs are reliable) before carrying. Only lightweights I've seen are the experimental Inglis HPs made during WWII.

Hello-

I happen to have bought one of the aluminum HP's in January 2006 when they came through AIM Surplus for about $420. Novak was supposed to have bought ten or so out of the bunch.

I have had the gun worked over by my gunsmith and carry it daily and shoot it in IDPA. I have not carried my steel HP since. The gun is the perfect weight and it shoots so unbelievably well. Weight difference is very noticable and I think the LW is 300 grams less than the steel HP. Here is a pic of my carry set-up. This gun in a Sparks VM-2 is pure heaven.
