Lipsey's Mountain Gun

I see Lipsey's has reintroduced the N-frame Mountain Gun in .44 Mag. Looking at the online pictures, the hammer and trigger are shown in a silver color. Anyone know if Smith has resumed flash chroming the internals? Always thought it a nice touch.
Seriously doubt the parts are anything but MIM. BTW, it's advertised as not having the internal lock.

Heck, we've got .44 Mag revolvers out the ying-yang....how 'bout a Mountain Gun in .41 Mag, .44 Special or 45 Colt? No lock, skinny barrel, what a back country carry piece they'd make? Regards, Rod

K-frames, L-frames, 357 mag, 44 mag, and 10mm are the more popular sellers, so those will probably be released first in various configuration long before the more niche calibers if I had to guess. I'm kind of hesitant to buy any of these new no lock revolvers because I know as soon as I do, S&W will release something new that I want more.

Is there any reasonable expectation of other Mountain Gun models?

It would be foolish for them not to.

Hopefully they can deliver these without undue delay, and without quality issues.

I think Smith and Wesson is in a unique position to pull this off with “classic” guns of their own catalog. People are willing to pay extra for the genuine article as opposed to something from overseas that only closely mimics the authentic product.

I think these guns will hold value. Maybe even appreciate a bit if demand takes off. Can’t say that about the mimics and clones.

I am trying to get rid guns, not buy anymore. But both of these are pretty darn enticing.....

It’s OK to churn your collection.

It’s OK to take some losses to maintain the fun. At the end of the day, it’s only STUFF and money.

You don’t HAVE TO have every version of it.

I’m pondering whether to get a GALCO holster for my 5-inch Model 625 (45ACP), with the notion that an extra inch of holster would be harmless in shared application with the new 629 Mountain Gun. $250 holster for all those times I CCW N-frame revolvers. Call me MR. LIFESTYLE!

Probably need the matching belt too.

And some new boots.

And probably a horse, and a King Cab diesel.

This is sounding right. I mean with petrol prices probably dropping 30% by sunset tomorrow.

Love that reworked 28-2!

Thanks for putting this on the forum, otherwise I might have missed them. This is GREAT news! I don’t know which of the two I like/want more. Honestly, I’m not sure I care - if one shows up at the LGS and I can inspect it (I am still suspicious of build quality for all new S&W revolvers due to highly variable execution), I’ll buy it. The price premium over a standard offering is completely worth it IMO. Hopefully a member here will get one soon and give us a full range report!

Two questions answered; the internals are flash chromed, and the Bear Hugs are wider, and rounded, up by the humpback. Handsome as the usual OEM Altamonts might be, and generally a good fit, the damned things are both thin and squared off at the humpback.
BTW, as regards the smooth grips; have a set of smooth, boot grips on a 340SC; they allow you to hold on to a (really sharply recoiling) pistol. And the Bear Hugs both look good and are very old school.
Yeah, time to start putting away some sheckles, and thinking about swapping away the 25-15.
BTW, have an old, flapped N frame holster, with a real Indiana Jones vibe. It works great with a Mountain Gun.
