loading 357 rem. MAX

i've ordered some rem brass and 180gr, sjhp also rem....

i'll probally use this on whitetail this year, anyone have any input on the cartridge in general, or any loads for hunting?

all the data i have uses small rifle, and small rifle mag primers... and one warns of major pressure differences in temp change...

so how about some hands on experience....

I haven't relaoaded for my .357 Max in quite a few years (I have a Contender and used to shoot IHMSA a lot way back when), but I think you'll be happy with that 180 gr. bullet. I've still got some that I loaded using the Speer #11 manual and last time I checked I was getting 2" or better 3-shot groups @ 100 yrds with a 10" bbl and 4X scope. You should like it just fine for whitetails.

Via a chronograph, I've seen a 100fps difference in velocity with 10-15 degree change in ambient temps using H110 and a 180gr bullet (same one you mention in fact). I was using a pistol mag primer, not rifle. The effect seemed to be lessened when I moved to a warmer charge (about .6 grains more). Maybe I wasn't in the powder's "sweet spot" and the larger charge is less temp sensitive...

This was in 357mag, not max though.

That specific bullet likes to hit deer no faster than 1400fps; suggest 1250-1350fps launch speed (unless you anticipate 100+ yd shot).

Great 357 deer bullet. Really.
