I havea question about the M1 Garand when loading.

If I want to load 2 rounds is it better to just get a 2 round clip or is it OK to just follow the procedures outlined by the CMP.

I would just buy some 2 round clips. Even better are the combo 2/5 round clips. They hold 2 in one side or 5 on the other. The main advantage when shooting for score is that your reduced capacity clips can be preloaded and ready to go so your focus can stay on the target. It is also faster to load when you can just throw the clip in the rifle. Stacking two rounds in a standard clip only works if you are really carefull loading - again taking your focus off of the target.

That makes a lot of sense, thanks.

Is there a manufacturer or supplier that you recommend?

I juzt found mine at a gun show for maybe four bucks each and i bought a handful. I am sure that Fulton Armory has good quality

You can also cross two rounds in a clip. Put them in the clip so one is pointing up at 45 deg and the other down. They'll straighten out as you push them into the mag well.

Loading a Garand with two rounds is always a kluge. It was meant to be loaded with an eight round clip and nothing else.

Having shot tens of thousands of rounds in Highpower Competition with the things, I am of the opinion that the special two round clips are the least trouble, but after you step on them a couple of times, they start having problems.

I have gotten pretty good at dropping an empty eight round clip and rolling in two rounds after, but I do pull the bolt back to verify that the first round was stripped off the clip and made it to the chamber.
