Loading for 32 special in a 1894 winchester lever.

Hi guys!

A guy I met is trying to sell a 32 special (1894).

In order to reload for it, can a guy simply expand 30-30 case necks, and load for 32 special load data?

Or is there more case forming/modifications nessessary?

Yup, I've done it for years. You have no problem doing that. Remember you have/should full length resize for that lever also, same as you would a 30/30.

I also do it with 30-30 brass but the necks seem to split sooner than the Frontier brass that was made in 32 Win SPL. I would take the time to trim ALL the brass to length after sizing it up, before reloading with this one as the roll crimp that's needed will then not give you any adjustment problems. I also trim again after 3 reloads. Enjoy that lever will ya.

If you do expand 30-30 into a 32 Special, make sure you don't have a 30-30 laying around that would accept the bigger diameter round. Might get a "pressure surprise" if the wrong round gets into the gun. Best to just buy some 32 Special brass, methinks.

Doubtful a 32 special round would chamber in a rifle chambered for a 30-30, but then I suppose anything is possible for some. I would imagine the bullet itself would be pushed back into the case first, and also the neck of the case would prevent the round from chambering.
