Wow, great thread!
Redirect, w/o meaning without, no scope...using iron-sights.
One day, my brother and I went to state land to shoot. I took my expensive Weatherby; he had his WWII Brit .303! He saw a sparrow at about 100 yards out. Now, he told me that he had shot several sparrows as he sighted-in his rifle for deer season. As I scoffed, and retorted, right, he responded, "Watch this! I'll nail it first round."
Now, me being the kid brother, I expected that he was joking. God as my witness, he nailed that sparrow on the first round. There was nothing but a cloud of feathers.
Of course I said, right...luck...pure luck! So, he looked at me and said, "Okay smart@$$, let's see ya do that with yur fancy rifle! Luck!? Watch that branch that it was perched on!"
I'll be danged it if he didn't nail it too! Call it luck, call it skill; call it what you will. But he nailed that sparrow on the first shot. He nailed the small branch 1" in diameter on the second shot! I darned near dropped my teeth as the branch dangled by a thin strand of bark!
That was with his old iron-sighted .303 Brit!
