I picked up a .40 S&W keltec sub2k a few months ago and really like it, now I want a .40 cal pistol to go along with it. It takes Glock 22 mags and that is where the problem starts for me...I hate the grip angle and trigger feel in glocks...so buying a Glock 22 is out. I'm mainly a revolver guy, but I do own 3 autos (SIG P6, P220 and P226). In a perfect world I would just pick up a CPO SIG in .40, but finances do not allow it.

I'm thinking of either a EAA witness or Ruger P944. I like the fact that the EAA can be converted to 10mm for ~$200 plus the CZ/Witness grip fits my hand like a glove. My favorite carry gun is a .357 Ruger Security Six snubbie...so I'm kind of partial to Ruger products.

    Any other suggestions?

If you are going to buy before the end of April, you might want to take a look at the Smith M&P .40. They have a $50 mail in rebate and will mail 2 additional magazines. I picked up the 9mm version last week. After the in-store sale and rebates it came out to $319.

I normally shoot DA revolver and find the trigger to work well for me. I don't do well with traditional DA/SA semi-autos.

I'd pass on the Ruger autos in .40S&W. Mine had very poor trigger pulls and poor accuracy though they were reliable. Maybe a used CZ75?

I'm not a big 40 fan however I've owned and shot a number of them the best lost cost version is the CZ40B accurate and dependable, higher cost but excellent is the Browning hi power.

I'll +1 DaleCooper51's M&P Vote, for the price after rebate it is very hard to beat. Of course me and M&P don't get along, but thats more the fault of my shooting grip than the guns.

2nd would be SAXD, loved all the ones I've fired.

    My $0.02

I went to a local gunshow today and I checked out a LOT of guns. The CZ40P has really piqued my interest!

Yesterday at a gun show, I saw some used S&W pistols in .40 S&W for about $300. I can't remember what they were. Some sort of almost-1911.

That is the CZ40B, grip is large then the 1911 but as I stated above accurate
and excellent overall, with reloads & commerical.

CZ75 is avilable in 40 in the standard model, the all steel framed Compact 40, and the new alloy framed P06, a 40 SW version of the famous P01. Go for it.

As the official M&P super fan I must add one more vote for the M&P. But would also encourage you to look at the CZ's. Also for a while Kel-tec was making a .40 but I have never actually seen one just heard that they exist somewhere. So if you can find the P-40 then that might be a good option.

Stoeger Cougar. You get the exact same gun as the Beretta Cougar for half the price.

    +1 to the Cougar.

    Good solid pistol cheap.

CZ 40P is cool but the price has gone up to about $450+

Stoeger Cougar, CZ-40P (Can still find them for $400 here and there), M&P 40, EAA, Taurus 24/7, Glock, or XD .40 will all serve you well, the last two being in the $450-500 range

when I shop around for a .40, it will be in a CZ-75B model. I have the 9mm version and that gun is sweet. All steel and the fit and finish is excellent. These guns are underrated and at a good price. I don't know why these are not talked about more on the boards (aside from the CZ forum).

I could swear these were S&W name pistols. They did have that CZ look though I have never had or fired a CZ pistol.

mechag- I too saw those 40cal S&W police trade ins at the gun show. I don't know the model number right off hand (4006??) but a friend of mine had one some years ago. DAO trigger turned me off of it. Built like a tank though.

CZ-75B, definitely. I called mine "the shootingest damn gun I've ever owned!" I had an enthusiastic buyer and had to sell to take care of finances...
