Save youre money and buy a S&W k frame, you will be much happier with it over a taurus. Why buy a copy when you can have the real thing.

You're totally uninformed and perhaps misinformed opinion. I've owned a 4" M19 and have two Taurus 66s and the these guns shoot better, are stronger, than a K frame. The frames are a little beefier, the forcing cone is round and less likely to split as I've had a K frame do. My 4" 66 will put 6 rounds of 140 Speer JHP .357 or 148 Lee SWC over 2.7 grains bullseye into 1" at 25 yards, as good as I can shoot iron sights. My 3" gun is about 1/2" behind the 4" and that 19 shot about as good as my 3" gun. I sold the Smith, kept both Tauri.

New? Ruger.

Used, a nice pre lock S&W.

My 3" S&W 66-4 is my favorite carry gun. TJ

I have been carrying my .38 model 442 S&W since 1992. Someone said it earlier: "Spend it on a great gun, you will forget the cost" I have. Recently, I picked up another .357 and have fallen back in love with that cartridge. I am seriously thinking of buying a Ruger .357 snub with Hogue grips so I can carry it CCW. I'm sure the weight will take a bit to get used to, but to carry a bigger cartridge, it's worth the hassle.. I'm pretty sure I'll forget the cost, also.....:)

Mcgunner,
For a man who has 14,755 post this is not very high road.
Yes I told him to buy a S&W, I think they are better guns. And that is my opinion. I have much shooting time shooting the other type of revolver. and I THINK they are not as good. I am not brand bashing, I am just simply using my right to have a opinion. And it is quite certian to me that you like the other brand. That is you right to have that opinion.
But for you to judge me and my opinion as it is not the same as yours, Well in my opinion that is so fourth grade.

I gotta go with Gordy on this one. S&W, Colt and Ruger gun build quality has never been an issue. Taurus has always been hit-and-miss. You should consider yourself very lucky that your guns are so good. Many who have owned them do not feel the same as you.

I can't speak for taurus, i have no problems with them and in fact I want to buy their tracker in .17HMR, but I CAN tell you that out of three S&W revolvers, two had to go back to the factory (one being a 386NG in .357 Mag) and one of the two had to go back twice.

Just saying...these days, everyone is skimping on quality in my opinion and we suffer because of it. :(

Lots of Taurus bashing on this thread. Mine are very accurate, lock up tight, and eat ammo by the box quite frequently.

If its not smith and wesson or colt people dont want to hear it. I think its funny. God forbid a company sell something reasonably priced and have it be quality.

A Taurus story ... I bought a 617, 7-rd snubbie .357, for carry. The first time I took it out, the cylinder jammed after about 30 rounds ... I cleaned it a little, shot a few more and it jammed again. Send it back or pay to have it fixed? I chose the latter, and after $85 and a week with a 'smith, I got back an incredible gun ... a trigger job makes it smooth and slick and the jamming (caused by too little clearance between the cylinder and barrel) is gone. I love the gun, tho I've decided it's a bit too heavy to carry. It's my house gun now, very accurate, easy to shoot, has never failed since the 'smith visit. Taurus purchases are a crapshoot; my oldest gun is a model 85, have had it for about 15 years and it has worked perfectly all that time. Pays your money and takes your choice ...

Yeah I don't see it as Taurus bashing... If all you can afford is the Taurus, BUY the Taurus. But I have bought a few cheaper guns over the past several years, AND always regretted it.

I am actually not much of a fan of the quality of "modern" S&W revolvers. I would much prefer to buy a 30 to 40 year old gun that has been lightly used. They are generally marginally cheaper than the new ones, and just better guns... IN MY OPINION

Be patient, save a little and buy something that will treat you and your kids/grandkids well...

After reading this thread yesterday, I was second guessing my 2 Taurus snubbies. I loaded up some 38+p and 357mag for the 605 snub, and some 115gr ball 9mm ammo for the 905 snubbie. Drove out to the farm, worried that my revolvers are crap, and what do you know they worked awsome and accurate to boot!! Whew!! That was close.

For the guy that said, ''Taurus is hit or miss and you want to check it out before buying'' . Do you not check all your guns before buying?? Or if it is a S&W you dont even have to look at it?
