Looking for 223 Rem 55 gr FMJBT bullets?

I am running low and looking for a good place to buy some. I had ordered several thousand of Hornady 55 gr BT with cannelure but that was back in "good old days":(

Any good or new companies offering decent prices?. I have no kept up with the prices per hundred let alone thousand. More range fodder, do not need precision match or hunting bullets

Yes I am searching on my own looking around,;)

They're normally always in stock on Natchez. I normally always see the Hornady .224 FMJBT w/cannelure. I've also seen them on Powder Valley.

Have you checked either one of the above places yet? If not, check them out.

I haven't looked on Cabelas in awhile, but they may have them there too.
 
Palmetto state armory has had the 6000 ct Hornady 55gr fmj box lately. Im not sure you want to buy that many though. What is your price point?

Nevermind. They went on sale recently. 500$ for 6000 with free shipping.

I bought a bunch of the 30 cal 308 blems bullets the day before the flier advertized them.;)

The came today and look brand new. 150 gr with cannelure.
 
Does the cannelure help secure the bullet when using a semi auto such as the AR? What are the advantages or disadvantages of using cannelure bullets in AR platform?

Sorry for the hijack but I figured this was a good place to get a quick answer... Thanks...
 
If you trim the cases, and the cannelures are consistent on the bullets, a nice roll crimp is good insurance against the bullet being driven back in the case.

If the cannelures are all over the place like these, it is frustrating trying to roll crimp.

I give my 55 Gr FMJ plinking bullets a nice medium taper crimp. I do not crimp any loaded for accuracy, but I do insure I am getting good neck tension.

Not a problem. Yes they help secure the bullet in any magazine fed gun. Not that the 223 is brutal recoil but I like them.
I trim my cases to length and taper crimp as Walkalong posted. The Hornadys I have are all consistent so they match up fine to recommended OAL Some folks just use neck tension but I do not like bullets moving.;) Even without crimping I believe the cannelure will help prevent bullet movement better than a smooth bullet.

Guess it comes from loading so many revolver rounds. I like to crimp!
 
IMO, no crimp needed with .223 shot out of an AR. Neck tension takes care of the job. Do a press test to make sure. Grab a round, push the bullet against a bench with both hands. Hard. It shouldn't move. And it won't in a magazine or during feeding. Crimping just gilds the lily. I seat the bullet to the center of the cannelure. If shooting full auto you might, might, look at crimping. Military rounds are crimped. The cannelure otherwise is only vestigial from a reloading standpoint. Dr. Fackler's combat experience and tests show that the M193 55 gr. bullet tumbles about its axis, often disintegrating, breaking apart at the cannelure when it hits tissue after penetrating a bit. This terminal ballistics phenomenon enhances the downrange effectiveness of the bullet. But is irrelevant poking holes in paper.
 
Twice very recently I have purchased 1000 round count of the Hornady at Midway for $89. My LGS has then at $54 for 500 and has for several months now.

FYI, Berry Mfg sells .224", 55 grain, Full Metal Jacketed bullets.

Oddly, they are listed under the "Jacketed Rifle Bullet" section of Berry's web site. Berry also sells 30 cal, 150 grain, FMJ bullets.
