Im looking for a shot timer to get my speed up, and I've never used one before. I'd like to keep it around $100 if I can as I'll be asking for it for Christmas. Is there a reasonably good one for the price that has a belt clip, can be used for dry firing practice, and is reliable?

Thanks in advance.

I like the CED because of its memory that lets me review several repetitions of a drill.
Some say they are fragile, though.

The PACT is the industry standard.

The only way to dryfire with a timer is to set par times, the timer is not going to pick up the Click of a hammer fall.

Pocket Pro shot timer is just under a hundred... Will last u many many years..
Big and ugly, but it works... :).

I've used several, and my all around favorite is a Pocket Pro 2. They are a little over 100, but not a whole lot.

CED 7000 has more features, some of which are nice, but it has several downsides... screen is small, buttons are small, no built in belt clip, and the one they sell for it sucks...

I inevitably drop them, and they are not exactly robust. I've never got one to last more than about 2 years at most, but ymmv there.

Another vote for a Pocket Pro. I often end up using PACT timers at matches, and I dislike them. They don't suit me ergonomically.

I'm guessing the common club timers may be regional. I use a PACT Club Timer III for my personal timer but the VAST majority of club matches in the area tend to use Pocket Pro's (original or II) .

FWIW, I personally tend to like Pocket Pro's for match timers, and for training Pocket Pro 's or PACT III's. I don't like using the CED timers for either.

(Only reason I say I like the PACT III for a training timer but not running matches is the start button is on the top rather than the side. Just makes it a little awkward to hit when holding up the timer but it's workable. If clipped onto yoru belt it's not an issue - even preferable).

Amazon has the Pocket Pro II's for $105 shipped for the grey version.

I have a couple Pact timers I use most often.

I have an RU ready that works well, especially if in a bay that echoes or with suppressed firearms, just don't like the display as much.

The CED 8000 is another I like, I have the "big board" display and it's nice to be able to see times even if you are not the one with the timer.

I had a CED 7000 but didn't like the fact that I was out of luck when the battery died, can't just pop in a new one. For some unknown reason they used a plastic lense that makes it so you can't read the LCD if your glasses are polarized. The final problem I had with them was the frequency of the buzzer, with my high frequency hearing loss, I can't hear them about half the time (have to tell the RO to put them right next to my ear).

There are several others but I don't like any that don't show both time and shot count on the display, without having to hit any buttons and prefer split time too.

Anyone tried this free phone APP shot timer? I have been using it and seems to work great. The only thing I see to make it work better is plugging in earphones to hear the buzzer better.

It is from (Innovative Applications).

If you have a smart phone, I'd suggest trying the "free" apps. This way you can see if you might need/want the extra features that bump up the price of the dedicated units.

Major problem I have with them is that few smart phone screens are easily visible outdoors on a bright day.

Ive tried a few on both apple and google stores. They are okay if your just looking for draw to first shot, par or random start. not very good for splits and strings.
