Most shotguns I've seen for sale are $700 plus. Anybody know of anything for $500 or preferably even much less? I don't need anything fancy, I just want to make some smoke and move some pellets.

what type? side by side, over and under, etc.. and what gauge?

if you want a nice 'coach gun' then check out gunbroker for a Remington (Baikal) SPR 220

You might look into a used T/C New Englander with a shotgun barrel...if you can find one - I've seen them on GB - often with a BIN of less than $300

From the Forum this is posted in, I would guess the O.P. is looking for a blackpowder muzzle loading shotgun.
    Single barrel, or double barrel?

I wa in a similar situation where I didn't want to spend a fortune if I wasn't going to shoot it that much. I found an India made SXS 12 ga. Yes, it was cheaply made but only cost $150-$200. Can't remember. It had a steel ramrod the gun has stamped on the barre max load 90grs BP with 1 1/4oz shot. That's the mols I would want to shoot anyway. It shot fine and now I got it out of my system without spending $700.

Mossberg 500 and a ML barrel. Spend less than $500. Less than $400 if you buy used, or a Maverick 88.

Looking for a muzzleloader so I can play with different loads on the spot. Double barrel would be nice but single will do. Thanks for the info so far, I'll do some looking.

I have a Navy Arms 12 gauge I could be talked out of.

It is an in-line with musket cap ignition and a poly choke.

Like the guy before me said, you will spend MUCH less than 300 bucks on a brand new Maverick 88, if that's all you're looking for. GREAT gun, really a bargain for the money.
