I'm a permit to carry instructor and avid handgun and 3 gun competitor in Northern MN.
I have been getting a good deal of interest from my students in further handgun tactics and rifle training. I would feel comfortable that I could teach them a good deal already, but would like to make sure that I am providing all I can for them. Who knows of a good training program that they can recommend where I can get additional training?

I'm willing to travel and would like to do something this winter. Somewhere warm would be nice for a little get away from -40 and snow.

You could do a whole heck of a lot worse than Gunsite, in Paulden, AZ. It's 60 degrees there currently.

Gunsite is probably near the tip-top of what you could find as far as public training facilities, but it's also gonna be among the most expensive; and I'm not sure what the availability is like for classes in the very near future.

If you're looking for quality and you've got the cash to attend, I think it's probably your best bet.

can you be more specific about what kind of training you are looking for?

I've looked at gunsight and figured that's were I would likely end up, but was hoping there was more personal experience with different places.
I'm no a basic shooter and I have pretty good technique so I'm not looking for a basic class. What I would like is to be able to learn more about failure drills, engagement and brush up on shooting technique.
My goal is to take what I learn and help those in my area to learn the basics as well as be able to give them more along the lines of engagement and drills.
Another thing I'll gain from formal training is more credibility.

If I'm going to spend a bunch of money on this I want to be pushed past where I'm at and learn something new and hone my skills. I think most training out there wouldn't meet my requirements as it's more of a basic level from what I can see.
Who's been to gunsight? or something like it?

I've also looked at front sight, but something about it makes me feel like it's a hack... I don't know why, but that' my impression.
So much of this training seems to be made for new shooters, which is great, but not for me.

In MN Deputy Dave Maglio runs a very good instructor course for Massad Ayoob. In WA. Marty Hayes of the Firearms Academy of Seattle is first rate, you can see him on The Best Defense. Tom Givens of Rangemaster is a very top level instructor (adjunct instructor t the FBI Academy). Gunsite with Ed Head and Ed Stock is great. I've trained with all of them and I learned much. I have the firearms training vendorship for Pima County Parks and Recreation and will be sponsoring Mas Ayoob this year.

A few friends have been to Gunsite.
When they went, the courses offered had to be followed in strict order, from beginner to advance.
It would be worth the time to see if this is still accurate, though.
