Anyone know any online sources for SA revolvers for cowboy mounted shooting? I'm cost-conscious, so would like to buy used if possible. From my experiences last year borrowing guns, I know that a good fit to my hand is very important....so I will also be looking locally, my local assn, too.

    Looking forward to spring!

I don't know how you feel about it, but Black Powder is pretty doggone cheap.

150 will get you a 5, or an 8inch bbl Colt 1851 Navy in .44 (Cabelas)

Add 20$ for a pound of powder, 5$ for a tin of primers, and another 15 for a box of 100 round balls, and you're in business.

If you want a pair, that's only 340$ for a 2-gun rig, not counting whatever you wanted to purchase/make/beg/borrow/steal for holsters/belt.

Not to mention, Black Powder is TOTALLY AWESOME. Just' sayin'. :)

    Mounted Shooting

    Hey Pardner,
Go to the SASS Wire and check the classifieds, www.sassnet.com. You have to be a member to post BST items but you can buy from the members that have listed. What most (IMHO) mounted members use is a Ruger Montaldo. You are aware that mounted shooting involves shooting blanks at those balloons. Special loads with a coarse grained powder that will pop them up to 10-15 feet away.

Hope this helps. Mudrock SASS #63238

Oh by the way, if yer hoss aint trained to the sound of gunfire, be prepaired ta git yer keister up of a da ground!! caue that where you are gonna be!!

    9MMare,
Check out the Ruger Montado. Low hammer for easy one handed cocking. Look at a one strong side and one cross draw holster. Figure out how and where, what angle, when you are standing in the stirrups, knees at full press and at a run.

Talk to some of the mounted shooters before you buy irons or leather. If you can afford mounted shooting, get the best. More power to ya.

The biggest mistake ground shooters make is buying without talking to the experienced ones. I was lucky. I was hand fed by some of the best.
