Can someone recommend a small fixed blade knife with serrated edge.
Would prefer small 3 1/2" blade or so. If the cold steel mini-hunter came with a serrated edge it would be my choice.

hehe... 3.5" blade isn't actually a small blade but here would be my thoughts/suggestions:

(first, not sure if you want full serrations or partial so included both. also, not sure what purpose/use you wanted so hope these are what you were looking for. as you can tell, i'm a big CRKT fan)

CRKT falcon: must underrated knife in my collection. dc'd but lot of 3 for less then $40 (could do well w/ a merc harness, though) seen here

CRKT ABC Hammond seen here

lastly, for a little more $$, there's the Benchmade Nimravus Cub seen here. another discontinued knife. i just got the full sized nimravus and LOVE It.

I like the crkt's , I'm open to more recommedations. Here is what I want:
Fixed blade - Partially serrated.
Able to carry and conceal - possibly in a horizontal sheath.
I would go bigger than 3" blade if needed.

jshirley- yeah, i guess you guys are right. just always seen threads where they want "small" to be sub 2".

any opinions/thoughts on handle material/use/blade shape/price? Everyday use or more of a pure SD choice? just wondering where you're coming from. my experience is more w/ lower-middle end products. haven't had the scratch to grab a $100+ knife yet.

the BM griptilian has become my favorite folder. been meaning to fondle one of the griptilian fixed blades. not sure about horizontal carry with them, though.

i love my new BM nimravus full size. fits in my hand well, great balance and feel. one of my buddies questioned its lack of a guard but most of my knives don't have guards so it's not much of an issue for me.

i looked hard at the CRKT m60 series but they seem like pretty heavy duty beasts (9+ oz to the nimravus's 6 oz). didn't need it to be nuke proof and didn't want one that heavy.

CRKT C/K dragon has adjustable sheath for horizontal carry but doesn't have serrations.

for pure self defense, i'd go w/ the CRKT dragon. but doesn't have the serrations you're looking for. does have horizontal carry, though.

If you're willing to back down on the serrated issue, the Entrek Lynx is a very nifty little FB. Just got one last week for about $80, and most pleased with it.

It's built very sturdy for it's size, along the lines of those thick "tactical" knives made out of railroad spikes which are so hip these days. Someone on another forum described it as "a tactical knife with a Napoleon complex."

U.S. made from 440C, comes with pretty decent kydex sheath.

6" OAL, 2 5/8 blade.

The KABAR TDI Law Enforcement "Ankle Knife" is my current favorite, it handles more like a "conventional" knife than the other TDI LE knives with the 90-degree "pistol-grip" handles. It's actually kinda like a "micro-Kukri" WRT the blade-to-handle angle IMO. It is available in a partially-serrated version, the steel is AUS8 stainless w/black powder-coat, and the price is $39-$42 including an ankle-carry rig. The sheath that comes with it can be dismounted from the ankle-rig and worn horizontally on the belt using plastic zip-ties through the grommets as belt loops - a belt-loop adapter can also be ordered from KABAR. www.findesigns.net can make a neat IWB sheath for this knife, I've corresponded with the owner, Peter Janda, and will be ordering from him soon.

Here are a couple of options I came up with...

Emerson LaGriffe.... LINK

These little knives cut way out of proportion and literally disappear!

CRKT Ringed Razel... LINK

The Razel is an interesting knife. I have a custom SS3 Ringed Razel and it would poke some really good holes in someone! Very useful design!

Benchmade CBK... LINK

This would make for a very nice and light fixed blade, just make sure of your local laws.

These are some to look at...

They don't all fit all of your requirements (mainly being serrated) but they do fit into the price range and self defense requirements. Hope it helps.

Below is my current EDC - a 3.1" A2 steel Bark River Huntsman with black Micarta handle. Also in the KSF black leather pocket sheath is my very bright River Rock TM-311X 2xAAA LED flashlight, the best $10 I ever spent at Target. The setup carries undetected in the front pockets of my jeans and cargo pants.

Other great knives, at a little less than the mail order $120 of the Huntsman, include the Northwoods Knives Gladstone Drop Point Hunter and Benchmade BM201 Activator+, both 3.2-3.5" and D2 steel and ~$80 delivered. All are plain blades and US-made. Of course, while you can and will use anything in a fight for your life, these aren't designed as 'tactical' knives - just great sharp cutting instruments. The BM has a tiny secondary bevel, the other two are convex ground. I like all of them, perhaps the BM the least. They have homes.
