I have short fingers, and need better information on trigger reach than how a certain pistol fits someone's hand whom I have never met. Is there a chart that actually shows the trigger reach on commonly available pistols? Most companies say nothing, or only that smaller hands can adapt to that particular pistol. Actual trigger reach listings would be far more helpful. Thanks.

Which pistol are you looking at? Which would you like to compare it to? Many of us are willing to take pictures.

Trigger reach

I am looking to buy another pistol for range use. I have a 1911 and a Beretta 92FS. These shoot very well, but I want something that fits my hand better. I need the trigger reach measurement {Center of backstrap to trigger.} for full size pistols fit for serious range work 9mm only. CZ75B-XD9-etc. Maybe some I have left out? 4.5 inch or more. I shoot at 30 yds mostly.

With long guns, rifles & shotguns, the distance from
the rear of the stock to the trigger is called,

"Length of Pull" let's abbreviate as "LoP"

I don't know that handguns have this LoP as a
standard measurement supplied by manufacturers.
WIth Semi-AUtos I would guess that it would be from
the grip area where the web between the thumb and
index finger rests forward to the trigger. With Revolvers
there may be more variablility of where the hand grasps
the grip(s).

FWIW - I just measured my CZ 75B
DA - LoP approx*. 3.25 inches
SA - LoP approx.* 2.6 inches

* just a tape measure - not a large micrometer.

It would be nice to have a standard measurement
for handgun Length of Pull.

I feel your pain, since I also have short fingers. I don't know of a trigger reach chart, but I can list the guns that work for me:
Browning Hi-Power 9mm
SIG P239 9mm
Colt National Match .45 single-stack
Glock model 19 9mm (I'm not a Glock fan, but I tried my neighbor's)

From what I have read, the CZ SP-01 is supposed to offer a trigger that is easy to reach. I haven't been able to find one to grasp yet, but plan to stop in at a local dealer soon to find out how it fits. Same for the CZ P-01, although I'm not interested in this compact model.

Couple possibles, as I have short fingers...

-Smith & Wesson MP9
-Smith & Wesson Sigma
-Springfield XD9
-Ruger SR9 (yes, I know they were recalled; I also understand they are now slowly coming back on-line, and accd. to gunblast.com, the new trigger assembly really smooths that puppy out)
-1911 single stacks
-Taurus 74/7
-Bersa Thunder

Some that do not work for me...
-CZ 75B (DA/SA model...in SA mode, it's just barely reachable; in DA I cannot touch the trigger)
-Ruger P-series 9mms - too fat
-1911 2x stacks
-SiGs (including those marvelous P6s)

Some thoughts...for what they're worth...

re CZ

The 75B DA/SA has a l-o-n-g DA reach. The single action only will work for small hands.
I shoot 'production' with a DA/SA 75B and have small hands with a short reach. I put on very thin custom aluminum grips and worked the trigger to help compensate, but it's actually still a little long for my reach. I like the pistol so much, I won't give it up.
The XD's and S&Ws have a much smaller reach with the striker actions. Both are good solid range guns.
My son shoots an XD 45 service that fits my small hands amazingly well.

IMHO the CZ 75 SA or the SA SP-01 are probably the best out of box guns CZ makes for range use.

P.S. The Sigs do offer a short-reach trigger ($30-40) that will help a little.

The SIG 220 with slim grips and a short trigger feels very 1911-ish to me. Before it was too large in diameter and too far to the trigger. Now--very good. The H&K USP compact is a great pistol for small hands--but the barrel is shorter than you specified. I've heard the new HK45 with the changeable back straps is very short finger friendly.
