im looking into getting an HK USP .40. can you reload with these guns? i know my glocks brass cant be reloaded, ive inspected it and its pathetic... its blown way out of spec because of the design of the barrel. what id like to know is if HK barrels have fully supported chambers. i might go with a .45 too. i really want to reload, but the glock prevents me from doing that right now and new brass and components costs more then new ammo.

I reload .40 range brass, the cheapest you can get bullets anywhere is about $60/1000. The USP chamber should be fine. My consumable cost is about $115 per 1000 give or take depending upon bullets, primers, and powder at the time of purchase.

Glock brass can be reloaded, it's just not the best idea to keep using it in a Glock, due to the repeated stress in the base/web area. Some guys do use reloads in their Glocks, but it's generally frowned upon in the reloading industry for safety reasons.
the glock brass i picked up was significantly blown out of spec, i can tell even by looking at it. i AM new to reloading, but i dont want to hassle with a few pieces of glock brass that will need more work then its worth. you can clearly tell that its out of spec, even with the eye. i still have it saved, but im not going to do anything with it. glocks dont have fully supported chambers. i know you can buy barrels that are, but i havent decided on those yet.

Are you the same "jaak" over at the AK forum that I bought my WASR from?
I think that you should be able to visually inspect the round in the chamber to determine if it is fully supported. I haven't seen anything negative about any gun besides the Glocks.

I've run into glock range brass that looks the same as the brass from my S&W Sigma (a little bulged at the base). I've reloaded these several times and had no trouble. I wouldn't try to size any that were severely bulged, and I definitely wouldn't try using them in a Glock a second time.
One thing with the HK's, don't load lead if you have polygonal rifling. Jacketed and plated should be okay.

to answer your question without getting into the whole can you reload for glocks thing, yes the barrel on a USP is fully supported.

i dont know, possibly. there are two or three guys with names like mine over there. the cases are very bulged, i just wouldnt feel comfortable resizing the brass as much as its deformed... i mean, it looks abnormal. should i take a picture of some of the brass? i have a good micro setting on my camera for up close shots.

I don't believe there will be a problem. The department I work for reloads practice ammo because it's way cheaper. Glocks and H&K USP's use the same 40 without problems.

At first I segregated and loaded the "Glocked" brass seperately, but after two loadings, I couldn't tell the difference between the Glocked" and regular cases. I mixed them and have loaded them more than 15 times each with medium loads in my USP and will continue to do so.
However, if you feel it is unsafe, please send them to me for shooting - - -errr -
- - disposal, I won't even charge you
