Looking to upgrade my CCW

I'm looking to pick up a new single stack compact. Probably 40S&W or 357Sig. Very seldom do I worry about printing with a tee shirt over it. When I really want to hide something, my PT709 has always been there.
While the little 9 has served me well, I'd like to upgrade to what I consider a higher quality single stack.

Most of the time I carry my 4006. I'm comfortable with DA\SA guns and would probably buy something similar. Prefer all metal to polymer.
The only thing that comes to mind is the Sig P239 and a 39 series Smith. One thing that makes me hesitant about the Smith is support. My 4006 decocker broke and I played he** talking S&W into fixing it. They really didn't want to be bothered since I wasn't LE.

What else is there? I've shot the 239 in 357Sig. Very nice gun indeed. Have never handled a Smith 39 series pistol and don't see much chance of doing so.

For a new pistol the SIG P239 is pretty much the only game in town that meets your requirements.

The S&W 39 will be even harder to find parts for then your 4006, because it's a 1st gen.

A S&W 3913 is 9mm and a very nice CCW. Their .45, but you might want to look at a S&W 4516 or S&W 457.

No experience with the 39 series S&W, but I have owned and CC a P239 in the summer for over 6 years. Carried it, and originally purchased in, 40 but have since swapped to 357 SIG and have been quite happy with it.

With the short rest trigger offered by SIG the P239 is a sweet shooter.

The .357Sig is an interesting round, but I have enough calibers to feed, now. I went with the XDS45 single stack, for carry. Although, I still carry my G27 at times.

M&p shield 40 is an easy carry. Nice gun,small for a forty.

i really like my sig 938 its their new single stack 9.... but my favorite squeeze is still my colt off mod series 80 45.... it just fits perfect...

Walther PPS is an excellent single stack.....I like the 9mm better than the .40 tho.

If you are comfortable with the DA/SA trigger the the Sig 239 is an obvious choice. And if you have been trained to rack the slide using the hand-over-slide grip rather than the pinch grip then the Sig is a bit more comfortable than the S&W offerings. And I think you are spot on with availability of parts and service on the older Smiths. I just sold my 459 for that very reason. The last time I called S&W to get some spare parts it was hit and miss. I chose the Sig 239 in 9mm and have zero complaints. I always carry at least one spare mag, mostly from a potential mag loss or malfunction than any concern over lack of available rounds.

Another comment you hear a lot about DA/SA is the transition from the first shot to the second shot and the propensity of ripping off a second round unintentionally. I have to chuckle at that one because if it needed to be shot once I'm probably going to shoot it twice anyway!

Almost forgot. You always hear folks throw out the 3913 but people rarely mention the 3913's smaller sibling the CS9. Curious.

There are many choices, especially if you include polymer framed guns.

Springfield EMP 9mm (Glock 19 sized, so slightly more concealable than the SIG P239)
S&W Shield in 9mm (I think you will like it)
Kahr K9 and variants
Springfield XDS with 4" or 3.3" barrel

I really liked my 9mm EMP once SA got it running. It ate steel cased to Gold Dots.

The Kahr K9 carries and shoots well. It is nearly invisible because of the compact shape.

I gotta suggest looking at the P938 too. Best subcompact I have owned.

If I were you, I'd stick to what you shot and liked: the Sig P239 in .357 Sig. Get a .40S&W barrel just in case you can't find .357 Sig ammo.

also need 40 specific mags for the 239... the 357 mag is not interchangeable with 40 like the p229 mags are

Again I have to recommend my Colt Defender w/3" 9mm barrel. I carry Hornady Critical Duty 135gr +P. Check out the ballistics on this round and it performs as well as your .357 and.40. Carries 8+1.

+1 for the P239. My father carries one in .40, he also has a .357SIG barrel for it. Handles we'll in either caliber.

Aside from the decocker being different than what you're used to (I prefer the Sig style), it's a great DA/SA carry gun.
