Might offer to lease it, find out what the going rate for farm ground is around the area. Seems to be between $70-$90 an acre/year around here. Could be cheaper than buying it, maybe not. Depends on property value, payments an all that.
Still not as good as free though
Whats the fight about? Is this a peice of ground a group inherited and now someone wants to sell their share? Happened quite a few times around here and ruined some real nice farms.
Not as bad as what the city of columbus did though. They took close to a square mile of land away from a couple families that had farms on it, under eminant domain to put in a resevoir 20 years ago. Then they didn't put it in, another family took over farming about 800 acres, and everyone in the area got to hunt the back half down by big darby creek. Fast forward to about 2 years ago and the city is faced with "use it" or lose it to the folks that would have inherited it in the first place. So they kicked the guy off that was farming it again, tore down all the original farm houses and buildings that people were leasing from them, and made it a metro park, where no one can hunt and your not allowed to leave the 3 miles of trails they have so far. They have a 20 acre lake thats half in the park, half on private property in a guys back yard. The rangers go out in their canoe and try to chase him off their half of the lake and make sure he isn't catching "their" fish
Houses are going up everywhere out here too :banghead:
