i have been hunting on a small parcel of land 88 acres that was only 15 min from home. the owners family is in a big fight and now i cant use the land till they get the crap worked out. damn shame as i have put $300 in stands, 4 days in bush-hogging and $150 in seed and time to plant them.
now w/ 3 weeks till turkey season i have no place to hunt.

Might offer to lease it, find out what the going rate for farm ground is around the area. Seems to be between $70-$90 an acre/year around here. Could be cheaper than buying it, maybe not. Depends on property value, payments an all that.
Still not as good as free though :(

Whats the fight about? Is this a peice of ground a group inherited and now someone wants to sell their share? Happened quite a few times around here and ruined some real nice farms.

Not as bad as what the city of columbus did though. They took close to a square mile of land away from a couple families that had farms on it, under eminant domain to put in a resevoir 20 years ago. Then they didn't put it in, another family took over farming about 800 acres, and everyone in the area got to hunt the back half down by big darby creek. Fast forward to about 2 years ago and the city is faced with "use it" or lose it to the folks that would have inherited it in the first place. So they kicked the guy off that was farming it again, tore down all the original farm houses and buildings that people were leasing from them, and made it a metro park, where no one can hunt and your not allowed to leave the 3 miles of trails they have so far. They have a 20 acre lake thats half in the park, half on private property in a guys back yard. The rangers go out in their canoe and try to chase him off their half of the lake and make sure he isn't catching "their" fish :scrutiny: Houses are going up everywhere out here too :banghead:

verbal permission from brother 1 (nonhunter) and brother 2. brother 3 lives out of state and thinks the improvements are great. he hunts a couple of times a year when in town.
the father is the problem. he owns the parcel that offers the right of way and is mad at 1 of the sons for allowing his exwife to live on the property, rent free w/ her new husband. so he wont allow the use of the primary right of way. there is a secondary right of way but it has grown up over the last 10 years from nonuse and would have to be recut from scratch.
add that to the fact that he is going senile and is a bit paranoid and it creates a bit of a problem.
anyone in upstate SC want to let me come call for them during turkey season. i wont even bring a gun. i just like being out there and talking to the birds.

the fathers ex old lady.

Oh, I don't blame him then! Let him know you are a bad shot and might accidently hit his ex and her new husband if he let you access the property! Just the thought will get him in your good graces! Sorry but no turkeys at my place or I'd let you...
