Love and Hate my new gun. 8)

I was always intrigued by how many rounds it would take without a cleaning to make it not work ... The super long 1k round tests are always fun to watch.

cyclopsshooter...Not a gun snob are you?..lol..

I have three RIAs, two with consecutive numbers and my RIA compact. All three are shooters, but I could have easily left them alone, just for the heck of it. they are good guns for the money...people collect all sorts of things, including cruddy little pot metal pocket pistols, so it is all up to the owner.

I think I finally figured out what I'll do.

This! I don't have the faintest clue how many rounds this is. But I will expend them all ... in one session.
I don't think I'll be doing some sort of rapid fire test, seeing as I only have three magazines and I do still have to pay for my own ammunition, but this is sure to break in the gun pretty darned well.

[edit]

500 rounds exact, actually ... now.

Sounds like a plan! I think of my guns as tools, well maintained tools, but I don't fret the normal wear stuff. I buy 'em to shoot/enjoy 'em, gives 'em character!

kills me when people talk about dropping their guns on the concrete and stuff on purpose....my thinking is, just because its a tool and an EDC, doesnt mean i dont wanna keep it nice

someone mentioned a new car etc....if i buy a brand new car and it doesnt have a mark scratch or ding on it, i will baby the hell out of it...rock chips? touch up paint imeediately...scratch? buff it out or have it repaired ....when i had my mustang it was kept immaculate, no matter how much i drove it

my EDC is out getting refinished at this very moment to clean up all wear it had also... pics of that when i get it back! itll be the first two-tone p2000sk ive ever seen

That has happened to me for a while, but when i come to NEW half chaps AND NEW paddock boots for horseback riding you cant keep them nice and perfect. So i didnt care all dirty and worn. They actually look better this way.

Cyclops... it doesn't matter if it's a RIA, or a cheaper gun...

It's just good to take proper care of your possessions. Especially if they may one day be the tool that keeps you alive.

Nushif, shoot the heck out of it.. or do what I do, put it on your hip, carry a baby around, and wait for the diaper to fail/slip out of position. Nothing like cleaning baby waste out to make a gun feel used .

I avoided the issue by purchasing a used Chas. Daly Compact (early RIA Built) for $250 at a gun show. It already had its' dings and blems but shoots great. Later bought a full size used CD that still looks new.

I've always been extremely careful with my '74 Mod. 36 Chief's special because it only had a few scratches around one of the screws. But one day I was in a hurry leaving the house and it ended up in a coat pocket with an old set of keys for the day. So much for a few scratches.

uh.. its a rock island... whos gonna seriously collect those?
If not many people do, and for some reason it's desirable in the future, then an unused example would fetch a lot.

Realistically, it's not collector-worthy, but then again 50 years ago there were a lot of things nobody thought about collecting that are now worth a whole lot of money.

Alright. I did it.

Here's some after pictures.

and ...

These were taken at the range, before I packed it up for the day. When I got home and removed the gun from the case, it was still warm to the touch.

I took away two things from this trip.

I need to increase the OAL on my self rolled ammo. It caused a lot of feeding problems being way too short. Factory ammo worked fine.
Finally figured out how to position my hands on the darned thing. It ended up being a bit of a combination between the "thumbs forward" and the "thumbs locked" grip.

Overall my grouping was fine, I think, with anywhere between 1 and 5 inches at seven yards, depending on how fast I went. Now I just need to learn how to run the gun.

Yup. Sweet gun. And I can finally treat it like a working gun. 8) Even though it did clean up to 90%+ pretty much perfect condition.

I know more than one person who would take a brand new car and put a little scratch on a wheel well or a bumper corner so they could say "Now its not perfect"

^ those people sound like idiots. why waste the money on a new car if theyre going to purpose tear it up? just buy used - even a used one with less than 10k miles will save them a few grand

Nushif, they're good guns and a great value for those that are wise enough to understand that.
Try 1.250 on your length for your reloads, that length works well for me.
One other tip- Rocks seem to run the best when they're wet. Keep 'er well lubed and she'll be happier and so will you.;)
Good luck, Buckshot Bill

Awesome, but I was hoping you would have invited me too. I could have help you load magazines and of coarse shoot a few for you!
Mike

I guess I look at my various machines differently than most. I don't often buy cars new. I'd rather someone else paid the full price. I don't try to keep things pristine either, cars, motorcycles, guns or whatever. I keep them in good operating condition but beyond that they are all tools for me to do the things in life that I like to do. I don't run a museum. If I own it, it will work and it will be used. If I don't use it I sell it. Never could see having a lot of 'stuff' around that I don't need. I have plenty of nicks and dents on my body from years of hard use so I don't mind my other things if they show some use.

^ theres a difference in stuff having wear from being used as opposed to stuff being purposely dropped on the concrete to "get the first scratch out of the way" or scratching the bumper of a brand new car for the same reason......thats like getting a scar from working as opposed to getting a scar from being an emo and cutting yourself
