I am planning on getting a Garand and replacing the beat up stock with some nice looking wood, anyone know of companies offering beautiful wood for Garands.

Ideally it'd be like what Hakan does for CZ grips.

Thanks

Boyd had a stock set on sale which they dubbed their "slim profile" set (basically, Boyd's regular Garand stocks are for the most part, oversized like the Greek stocks) for $70 shipped. I bought one and it came out great. Took some filing to get it to lock up, but it was pretty easy. I spent about 4-5 days staining it and getting it finished. I'd recommend this one if you can get it. You'll have to call Boyd directly and ask since I don't see it on their website (you have to phone order anyway).

That said, DGR uses the Wenig stock set, which is also oversized (but not as bad as the Boyd). But DGR sands these down and fits them to an action, so even if you get one that is unfinished, it should lock up on your action as a 'drop in' fit.

I've got a Winchester receiver on the way. After I get the parts, I'm sending it to DGR for reparkerizing, barrelling, and stock fitting.

Glock,

Wenig makes the best wood for the M1, with the most varieties available, plain all the way up to VERY fancy grains... but it still has to have final inletting done to get that tight fit necessary for accuracy in the M1.

Dean @ DGR does this well...... Buy his wood. He uses the Wenig and does the final inletting before sale. Go to: www.dgrguns.com

I am fortunate enough to live here in SW Missouri...... Every time I travel North up US-65 for an X-Course Match at the Bucksnort Range I have the opportunity to stop in at BOTH the Sierra factory in Sedalia and buy all the "second" bullets I want, and also the Wenig Factory in Lincoln MO and drool over bins full of fancy grade M1 wood. Both places are less than 1/4 mile off of US-65.

Like Dean, I do the final inletting on the Wenig wood myself (not a job for the faint at heart..... easy to mess up for sure) for the perfect fit to that rifle.

Both of my M1 Match Grades sport Wenig furniture, and so will a soon to come special build JCG rifle.

Best to all,
Swampy

Garands forever
