Which would you rather get as a gift, an all original 98% WW2 issue 1911 (say Remington Rand) or an all matching nice condition Luger? A look into the bluebook says both are priced the same.

Either would be a great present.

Who's gonna gripe over getting either one as gift?!? Anyone who does is welcome to ship that crappy gun to me. :)

I've got four M1911s and have always wanted a Luger.

I picked 1911, only because I already have a nice Luger. But I'd gladly take the Luger too. Or any gun of that era.

Depends on the 1911 and the Luger.

A classic of either yes both would be OK, if its a modern 1911, then I would prefer the Luger. The luger is cooler and classic.

An NM Artillery Luger that could be fired would be nice ;)

It's interesting to note that both were developed around the turn of the century, as I recall reading somewhere. I've had both and still have the 1911, so you know which one I favor.

    That is the 20th!!!:)

I would be very happy with either but I voted Luger. Such a nice gesture on your part! Are you going to send it directly to my house or shall I come pick it up?

I'd love both but if only one I'd take the 1911.

If you want to shoot it get the 1911.

If you want to look at it and marvel at the machining and fine hand-fitting of complicated numbered parts, get the Luger.

If you break the 1911 you can get parts at the next gun show.

Not gonna happen with a Luger.

I would love to have a bushel basket full of Lugers, but for any practical purpose, the M1911A1 would be better. For many reasons, the Luger was a dead end. Its design went nowhere and it is gone, where the Browning tilting barrel design is very much alive and well.

German Lugers are a classic. 1911 are American and very common i wouldnt mind owning both but rather would carry a 1911.

I wouldn't mind having a Luger, but I'm not going out of my way to buy one. I suppose I would like getting one as a gift, but I would shoot it, not safe it.

I voted Luger. I have one and shoot it at the range often. Its accurate and has been 100% reliable, but I only shoot ball through it as designed.

Love the 1911 too, and have those, but the Luger is just a unique piece of history and function.

True Story: A few years back my stepmother gave me a nice Luger that had been in the family for some time, and as cool as it was I still ended up trading it for a 1911 (and some other stuff; it was a nice Luger).

german lugers are not ergonomic at all, and also not very reliable. a lot of german amry officers would purchased their own gun because they didn't trust the luger (many would buy the broomhandle mauser).

you'd be nuts not to take the rand. not sure what value book you looked it, but a lesser condition luger is worth much less than a 98% rand. :)

I voted 1911 because I shoot them better than a Luger, even though the one I shot was in 9mm. To me the weight distribution isn't quite right with the Luger.

I have a 1911 of that era so I voted for the Luger. Don't think I would ever get one myself but as a gift I would be happy.

I have both, I would rather get the Luger. Harder to find one all matching numbers in 98%.

Own and shoot both. Luger is a fun gun to shoot but the 1911 is much more reliable overall and just as much fun to shoot.

Would LOVE a luger. An acquaintance showed me a pristine looking one that he owns the other day and it sure is a beauty. If I were using one to defend myself? 1911. Just for fun collection? Hmm that's hard because I do really want a WW 1911, though a nice luger is classic and will go nowhere but up in value (not that the 1911 won't). So to sum it up I don't know...

Luger for collect. Luger's value is much higher then 1911 Rem Rand.

But if the question was which one I rather to have in war. I would choose Rem Rand (even though I'm more of 9mm fan).
