M&P slide removal question.

The M&P has a special piece that can be flipped forward within the gun in order to release the slide all the way. Or, it can be done ala Glock style trigger pull.

My question is if the Glock style trigger pull method would cause any issues in the long run mechanically speaking.
 
The lever you are referring to cams the sear down, when the slide is locked back. This prevents you from having to pull the trigger when you release the slide and turn the take down lever on the frame. You can release the slide without flipping the internal lever down and when the slide is even with the frame in the back, you can pull the trigger and the slide will come off as usual.

I'm not aware of any adverse effects of this method but others will surely offer their advise shortly.
 
My large fingers don't care to fish for that little lever so I've always opted to pull the trigger after carefully clearing the pistol. None of my 3 M&Ps have suffered any ill effect over a good many fieldstrips.
 
No, it won't hurt the pistol to pull the trigger during takedown.

You guys do realize there's a takedown tool built into the pistol's grip right? It also holds the backstrap in place.
 
The backstrap retainer "tool" would require more effort than is needed and my 9c's (bought used) is somewhat loose from wear. Just seems pointless but yes, well aware it is there.

I was looking at an M&P in the store and that tool on a new gun is a bear to get out. Two of the service guys gave up on trying to get it out. I finally got it out with a few nice indents in my thumbs.

After using that a couple times, I've decided that maybe it isn't a great idea as it may eventually strip the insides and then become loose. I dunno, maybe I'm just plastic paranoid. :uhoh:

My Shield, my first and only M&P, has no mag disconnect and the instructions said I could remove the slide using either method.
