I have a S&W M&P 9C. I have had it for a few weeks and have shot several hundred rounds through it. I find I shoot it better than other guns that I have had longer. It carries well, shoots well, decent capacity, feels great in my hand and has been 100% reliable. I was talking to a friend the other day and he quickly told me I should sell it. Went on to tell me how certain schools are no longer allowing training with the 9mm M&P. Mentioned that the "sears are breaking at 1500 rounds" which is why everyone installs appex kits. I took it with a grain of salt this guy believes that there is only one polymer pistol in the world that you should trust your life to. I know he is biased and its hard to argue due to some of the round counts he has through some of his guns. I just wonder if anyone has had any problems with their 9mm M&P's. I know with S&W's customer service that any issue would be repaired I just dont want to risk it happening when I need it.

I have about 3500-4000 rounds through my M&P9c without one single issue. This guy is full of bull.

A very quick/shallow google search found nothing for "M&P9c sear break" (without the "quotes"). I think you're okay and, maybe, your friend should avoid passing bad info.:)

I suspect your buddy secretly has M&P envy.:D

Your friend is full of crap. The reason people replace the sear is they like don't like the factory trigger. My personal M&P 9C had about 8000 rounds downrange before the recoil spring and mag release springs started to get a little soft. S&W replaced both. I also installed a heavier trigger return spring and a Apex RAM. I've have one FTF in the first couple mags but it has been very reliable otherwise. I'm sure I'm knocking on around 10,000 rounds now. I quit keeping track.
Come to think of it I haven't even replaced the mag springs. I should do that.

It does sound like your friend had partaken heavily of the kool-aid.

While the early M&Ps did have problems with things like their strikers and backstraps, these have been addressed. Even their less than optimal striker block and trigger action in general seem to be getting better...I do credit Apex Tactical parts for influencing this.

Most folks add Apex Tactical parts to optimize the trigger function. The result of installation is a very consistent improvement over the factory variances.

Be aware that the M&P design was optimized around the .40 S&W cartridge. Folks shooting the M&P9 in competition have discovered extractor problems under heavy use...Apex Tactical offers an optimized 9mm extractor to address this. They also have a redesigned 9mm Bar-Sto barrel in the works for folks who need that level of accuracy
