Howdy folks,

A buddy of mine was over just recently and we were firing his M1 Carbine and we noticed the rear sight was loose. Upon closer inspection I could not figure out how it was secured.... it appeared to have two small punch marks on the mounting surface... but no place for a screw, etc... Does anyone know how this thing mounts. I have looked in my Numrich catalog and they do not have a seperate part listing for mounting hardware, nor is their blow up specific or detailed enough to see. Any help would be appreciated!

Original carbine rear sights were a tight press-fit in the dovetail. To further secure them, the base was staked in place.

Cranking the sight all the way over, (usually to the left) exposes the staking area.

CAUTION: USGI carbine receivers are hard, and improper staking can chip, crack, or break the receiver's dovetail.

You can also use Red Loctite instead of staking.
